Giving up?
Is everybody giving up already? What do you think is going to happen at home games when the players feel like they've been given up on? I hate being overly optimistic...but these kids could be drained once they feel like everybody has given up on them. I hope they can at least muster 2 more wins out this year, and i still think this team can beat a few other teams, but yes its going to be hard.

I wonder if they thought of the fans when several of them gave up on the game today.

Re: Giving up?
Then they should play like they haven't given up. Losses of 23, 23, and 35 with turnovers, penalties, and poor play all over the field. Makes it hard to get up for that, but that's part of being a Cyclone I guess: you cheer for your team whether they show up or not.

Re: Giving up?
Haven't given up, never will give up, but **** man, what do you expect us to do, year after year. It's not the losses that kills our fan base. It's losses like this that do us. You can't expect to gain fans when you have young kids in the state with two teams to choose from, when both of them aren't doing the best nationally, but one loses close games and the other is getting blown out. No doubt Iowa doesn't have our schedule, but no way you can't tell me Penn St. wouldn't have put at least 40 up on us. It's not losing that's killing us, it's the fact we find a way to get blown out year after year and look like and FCS team when we shouldn't that's killing us.

I posted this during the game and I'm going to post it now.

Re: Giving up?
The fans have showed up like never before this year (attendance records broken, extremely high season ticket sales), and in response theyve been given some **** poor displays, including a 34-0 first half disaster against UT. There are more donors, more tickets, more facilities improvements, etc, than any time in recent memory.
I think its time the fans stop getting blame and we start seeing some results.

Re: Giving up?
I'll treat it just like any other ISU game. If we are close I'll cheer. If we choke I will just sit and watch. If we down by 38 points at half I'll probably leave. I pay for my ticket and you pay for yours. If you don't like it go **** yourself. Be thankful that I've bought season tickets for the last 15+ years.

I do think this is a big part of whats helped iowa get big. You can have 5-8 win seasons, but those 4-7 losses hurt a LOT less (and do a lot less damage to building support) when theyre competitive losses (even if just competitive because neither team put anything up offensively) than when theyre massive blowouts. Easy to sell the 'we're so close to being able to do something big' if you were a score away from winning in most of your losses.
2 years in a row we've had solid momentum going into a game (Utah 10, Texas 11) and 2 years in a row we've laid a huge egg.

But constant humiliating blowouts are another thing entirely. A 4-8 season where we were in all the losses wouldn't drive fans away. A 4-8 season with 5-6 losses where the game is over 10 minutes in... that'll do it.

Amen, there are only so many of these things you can take before the majority of fans start saying they can find another team to root for. Eventually, the results on the field have to start being called to the front. Anyone who blames the fans is an idiot.

I'll be there for each game, and I'll be ready to go. At the same time, it's pretty obvious that our team doesn't measure up to Big 12 competition right now. That's going to make it tough for most of us to get all fired up.

Re: Giving up?
please theyll play to win regardless...
After three 30 pt loses in a row . Fans have the right to whine and do what ever they want. Three straight games being over by halftime against decent but not amazing teams. Kstate is on the verge of being 6-0... and beat a team that just beat us by 40 pts. I think fans at this point have the right to be overly annoyed... We have literally sucked in every facet of the game 3 straight weeks, and didnt look all that good in our wins. Ill still be there saturday, and expect the team to show up to win, but i still reserve the right to be very annoyed after this shiz and wouldnt blame anyone for looking forward to basketball.

Re: Giving up?
How many do you expect to show up next week. 48,000 is my guess. (I will be there)
