I've seen some pretty epic tirades during tennis matches. It might be too much for him.

    "You can't be serious!!!"

Heck, I've personally been on the recieving end of little league parents venting their frustrations. I've even had to kick parents and coaches out. So, youth sports would be too much emotion for him as well.

Chess. That's the "sport" for him.

Yes, 2000 NCAA Midwest Regional Final in Auburn Hills, MI. Most people forget that Izzo went absolutely bananas on the officials; he was very close to getting tossed.

After his tirade, MSU got every call you can imagine, including but not limited to the blarge.

    Re: Rockin' Rhoads

When in a press conference or other similar situation, Rhoads is professional, open, & honest.
On the sideline, he is all in with his intensity and he wears it on his sleeve, but he is not continually like that no matter what (Pellini).
Will he get in the face of his players. Yes. Does he berate them with a spittle-filled tirade. No. Is he afraid to let some 4-letter words fly as to what he thinks of the officials within ear-shot? No. Did he get more animated on the sideline this last game than any other time before. Yes. Do the players feel like they are getting hosed by the officiating this year (you know, because other teams are more talented & that is why they can block better, etc.)? Probably. Could they get away with antics like Rhoads on the field or from the bench. No. Did Rhoads get flagged for any of this. No. Does Rhoads appear like a coach who is fighting for his players. Yes.

Really, a non-event. Love the guitar. Too bad it doesn't match up with Smoke on the Water, but not a good song for the wind-milling

    Re: Rockin' Rhoads

Good thing Iowa State has never hired a coach with emotion before now.... I mean, there was this guy one time name Johnny Orr that made a bunch of comments about refs on air, got fined, got fired up. Good thing he never coached a bunch of high class snobs like ISU. Then I heard about this coach name Tim Floyd. That guy would scream and throw his jacket off. Ohhh then this coach named Larry Eustachy that coached. Almost got kicked out of an elite 8 game. A player had to hold him back. Wow.... Crazy stuff huh... That would never fly here. How about this Bill Fennely guy... The girls on his team says he never stops yelling at them. Somehow they win.. Hard to believe.

I will say this every time a thread about "Fire Coach So and So" "We need an Apology" or something stupid..... Our fans are some of the worst in college sports. No knowledge of who we are, our history, no idea what type of person it takes to win here, no idea of anything, except the desire to beat Iowa.

    Re: Rockin' Rhoads

Rhoads on the call in show Monday night said that he is the same guy on Saturday that he is the rest of the days of the week at practice. Anyone that doesn't like what you get with this guy in charge is free to go get your black and gold gear on and cheer for the arrogant ****** to the east. I love the passion and the players know exactly what they have each and every day and know that Rhoads is going to go to battle for them, so they best be battling for him.

I don't give a **** what is appropriate or not, in fact I never said anything about appropriateness. It is about professionalism.

If you were to show the coach the film and ask him about it, I would venture to say he would say much the same things some have said here.

I am all about emotion and backing your team, I have no freaking idea what he thought he was doing at that point. I am assuming he completely lost his cool. That isn't a trait that you want in any leadership position. If you look at the players in the background, they don't even know what to make of that show.

Like many coaches prior to him, right now CPR is "untouchable" to many. It has happened with every single coach that has come here. Anyone says something that could possibly be viewed as negative and people jump completely down their throats. Of course, a month or year later, the same idiots are calling for the person's head. (McDerrmott, LE, Danny Mac, etc, etc, etc)

For the record I LOVE PR! I think he is the man for the job and love his enthusiasm and passion for Iowa State. I just feel that this specific situation was somewhat embarrassing.

Based on your usual posts you already hate this team and have no hope for the future of ISU. So does it really matter what Rhoads does on the sidelines?

I love Paul Rhoads, but this is a little too much over the top. Sorry, but many of you laughed at Bo Pelini for acting like he was going to explode at various junctures in past games. No one thought that he was just fighting for his team... they thought he was a lunatic. Being animated is good, but you have to control emotions better than CPR was during that game. The fallout is that your team is not playing with discipline. Have we seen that a few times in every game this year?

Also last night on the call in show, A highschool player called towards the end and told him how much as a player he appreciates rhoads and his emotional investment into the game. I loved it when my coach flipped out on the refs. It made me feel like I didn't need to.

    Re: Rockin' Rhoads

I always have hope for the FB team, each season. We are quickly becoming a laughing stock in this league. BBall has been down. Fball is back on the decline. We almost got left out in the cold during the big 12 implosion a few months ago. It is not a great time in ISU athletics. The one thing that we can hang our hats on though.... doing things the right way and with class and dignity. We keep our noses clean of scandals and th like. So the last thing I want to see is our coaches acting like crazy people on the sidelines and completely lose it.
I am with HillCyd on this one. Ill bet you if you asked CPR he would say he went too far and is not exactly proud of the way he acted.

Does he look a bit silly? Perhaps. However at a minimum it demonstrates to his players that he is fighting for them and will not just sit back and take a kick to the stones if he believes that the refs missed a call.

Does it do any good? Maybe, maybe not. Either way at least he is fighting for his players and I feel that it helps keep his players from "checking out".
That one dufus sideline ref could have been replaced by a kid who knew more. The defender just stopped in place and he was called for pass interference.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.

No but I'm sure he'll just laugh at you for trying to be a message board coach, and then also laugh at the fact he makes more than you.

    Re: Rockin' Rhoads

Everybody constantly keeps bringing up Pelini and then completely ignoring the fact that half the time he's screaming at his own players. That is what shows you can't control yourself and your not just fighting for your team.

I know a ton of people have already mentioned this but, I just thought I'd be the next person to say it. I know it will get ignored by the haters and they'll still post comparing Rhoads to Pelini, but they're hopeless. If you think Pelini is anything like Rhoads then there is absolutely no reason to argue with you because you'll never see reason.
