I agree.
And I would still shy away from giving too much heat even to the OC, either. Its pretty tough when your first round draft pick keeps going down with a bum ankle. Was this the first game that Big O didn't need to leave the game for a significant number of snaps.
That is night and day plugging that hole in the pressure machine. I have no illusions that playing TT didn't have a lot to do with the amt. of time JB had, but a whole different ball game.
Then add in the number of red shirts and currently contributing freshmen. I've had to hold my tounge for a while, because the growing pains suck and aren't over yet I'm sure. I just need to stay away from the board when the team has a day like they did against MO. Really that was the only true egg that the D has laid. The others were a wear down.
Lets not forget that it seems every team we played this year is ranked, was ranked, or getting votes. UConn is the only one I'm not sure of. I think even they had some votes early.

It helps when you go out there and keep them off the field and don't make them play 2/3 of the game.
Great job by the D tonight, the offense and special teams. really impressive.
Re: Is Wally the best defensive coordinator in the country?
In my opinion he has been the most impressive of all the coaches CPR has brought in. The only game I haven't been more then impressed is the Missouri game. With that said, I REALLY think our defense is good this year. Our defensive line is subpar, but I think our linebackers, defensive backs, and safeties are better then we have ever had at Iowa State, at least since I've been a fan.
Re: Is Wally the best defensive coordinator in the country?
Get Wally his personal in here and he'll be ok. The same goes for Hermann. I've said it once and I'll say it again.... Give CPR and his staff 4 to 5 years and then we should judge how things are going.
Personally I think the defensive line should be better next season. The defensive backs have made me want to puke all season long. The linebackers aren't bad and hopefully better next year.
