tommy watkins, former dirty 30 fullback, passed away yesterday. tom, was kind of a very shy person with a very amusing giggle passed away yesterday. tom was an excellent fullback on the cyclone dirty 30 football team ,was an all american footballer and went onto to play pro football with the detroit lions. after playing with the detriot lions, tommy became a very successful franchisee with the kentucky fried chicken chain.tommy was an interesting person with whom to play softball in the central iowa summer leagues. he could lay down a bunt and almost be across first base b4 the ball hit the ground. i had the privilege of playing softball with tom and i will always remember him with his famous watkins giggle. may the good lord be with the watkins family on the passing of tommy watkins, one of the great dirty 30 players in the late 1950's at iowa state...

Oh my...I remember talking with Tom Watkins as a kid. My uncle introduced me to him back in the mid/late 70's and will always remember him as answering any and all of my questions with a with a rather quiet/shy 'yes sir', 'no sir', or giving me a short answer. Got my respect every time I had a conversation with him. He will be missed.
My thoughts and prayers for him and his family. R.I.P. OUR Cyclone friend.

Sad news, thanks for posting. Spent a lot of time in Beyer Hall as a kid and I'll always remember the picture of him on the wall, hope it is still there. Godspeed to the Watkins family.
