Jantz is more of the gunslinger that can throw the ball down the field, and still makes plays with his feet when healthy. We have seen the past two weeks how much an improved zone read helps our offense. Jantz must improve in that aspect to be the starter next season. Rohach, unless he suddenly becomes a first team all Big 12 QB, will redshirt.
RB- I really hope Shontrelle is back. White is good but Shontrelle is dynamic. We will have a lot of depth as this position this year, which is a good thing. If Shontrelle is healthy, he will be the starter. It will be interested to see where Nealy and Standard fit in the depth chart with Hollis and Woody. That's 6 guys at the position.
WR- Lenz will be a starter, this we know. West and Horne will work out of the slot. I hope either Bundrage or Daniels can be the guy, like Money this year, that can require a double team at times and make some big plays down the field. Gary and Young will play a lot. It'll be interesting to see if a true freshmen can see the field. Also, Lampkin or Ecby could surprise.
TE- To me, this will be our weakest postion on offense. Hammer is a good blocker and fills his niche well. He will play a lot obviously. Hopefully Brun can be a more dynamic pass catcher.
OL- Farniok, Tuftee, and Burris are returning starters and will be there. I think Bykowski will be the other tackle and Dika the other guard. Lichtenberg will be the backup tackle and Gannon the backup guard.
DE- Most interesting position. Hayes, being a JUCO, could be a stud or a bust. Hopefully he comes in and dominates but we'll see. Roosevelt Maggitt will be back and probably a starter. Irving and Scott will be playing a lot. Rony Nelson will also fill his niche as a pass rusher.
DT- We can write in McDonough right now. Next to him will be either Cleyon Laing or Pompey. Simon, Woods, and Jensen will also play a lot. Next year will be the most depth at DT that ISU has had since I've been a fan.
LB- Least interesting position. Knott and Klein will be all conference. Miller and George will also play a lot. Broomfield and Morgan will play the hybrid position.
Safety- I like what CW and Austin said in the podcast about Givens moving over to strong safety after he has played well lately. Jacques will have free safety wrapped up for the rest of his career. Jared Brackens will be the top backup at safety. Earl Brooks should be back after an injury and I wonder if we see Broomfield backing up at this position as well.
Corner- Reeves is a shoe-in. Arnaud likes Jansen Watson opposite him. Lynn and Thomas will probably be the two backing them up. Well done, I think a lot of people forgot about Pompey, he was a huge get. Also what happened to the Young that played CB. I heard he got dinged up early in the year and hasn't really played since. Is he available for a RS if that's the case?

Re: 2012 starters
QB: Jantz (he has more potential than barnett IMO. needs his foot to get better, he depends on it. look how many sacks he took after mthe injury. he lost the ability to escape.)
RB: Duck becomes starter. He needs a little work, but I think he will end up being the best all-around back for us.
WRs: Lenz, West and Bundrage.
TE: Brun
OL: Bykowski, Farniok, Burris, Tuftee and Gannon.
DE: Maggitt and Hayes. Irving will see aslot of PT
DT: McDonough and Laing.
LB: Klein and Knott for sure. Miller, Morgan and George fight for the 3rd spot. I go with Miller.
CB: Reeves and Watson
S: Washington and Givens. Brackens will see alot of PT and watch out for Floyd Mattison to switch to SS and see solid time!
K: Who cares? No good options.
P: Kirby
RETURNERS: Lenz, West, Lampkin

I wonder if Woody could move to TE? I know he is a little small, but could maybe fit a Dallas Clark type role. We are missing a good receiving/YAC TE.

Re: 2012 starters
I love how this is an ISU message board and Kicker doesn't get brought up until 50 posts later. How much drama has that position cost us the past 10 years?
So we lose 2 scholarship kickers and gain a pretty good Freshman kicker from Ankeny and have a walk on or too.
Can't say enough how important having a good Place kicker and kick off guy is. Especially when ISU has enough redzone issues.
Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum.... -

Jevohn Miller will not start next year. Wouldn't be surprised if he never started with the current linebacker commit and possibly Myles being on the team.
Lenz, Horne, and Chris Young at wide receiver, with West, Bundrage, Gary, Jennert, and Daniels rotating in. who is Myles?

Re: 2012 starters
I am excited to see Lamkin in action, his HS video of kick returns is just crazy, he is very small, but he somehow just seems to find the seams and go.
I think Miller will be playing at LB next year, especially against run first teams like Iowa.
Some of you guys that are completely writing off Jantz need to rewatch the Iowa game. When healthy he was a very good runner. If he can improve his zone read play he might win his spot back. Barnett may be younger, but he has a whole year more of coaching in Herman's offensive scheme.

Re: 2012 starters
The redshirts I'm most excited about next year are Nealy and Daniels. I know we lose Money but I think we will be stronger at wide receiver next year, especially depth, and Daniels could be the biggest surprise there. As for Nealy, I thought he looked like our quickest back so we need to get him on the field, whether at rb or slot receiver. I'm really excited about all the young talent we've got at the skill positions.

I believe that the QB job is Jared Barnett's until I see a good reason to change. JB is one cool customer at QB for a RS Freshman. VERY impressed with the way he ran our offense. NO Turnovers. Some nice passing, good decisions, and good running. Very, very nice. PLUS JB seems to have a great attitude about improving his play.
I would also like to give kudos to Steele Jantz. Steele Jantz was helping the team and cheering his teammates on and giving encouragement to Jared Barnett. THAT is what it is all about and what CPR is teaching our fine young men on the team. TEAMWORK and being ALL IN with whatever your role might be on the team. WE NEED EVERYONE to be ALL IN.

Re: 2012 starters
I agree that at this point it looks like Barnett will be the starter until he loses the job by playing really poorly. Even if Jantz comes even with him, you start the younger player.

Re: 2012 starters
As of now none of us know whats going to happen at QB. Jantz's ankle is hurt. Barnett is playing well, but will he continue to play well and get us to a bowl and win that bowl game? Who knows. Jantz will get healthy and more than likely improve. Should be fun. It feels nice to have a couple of solid QBs.
