On a related note, anyone else notice how yet another fantastic jukebox song of the day absolutely paralyzed the crowd? And why do we continue to allow visiting bands into Jack Trice? Most of the game you couldn't even hear the ISU band in the south half of the stadium.

Creepy.... Part of the charm...
Seriously though.... You get rid of it and the song selection turns into some songs that nobody gets into or they choose some rock balads..... Better just stick with what the crowd gets into and is engaged with.
Or this thread turns into some good selections that make 50,000+ wave their arms and scream at the top of their lungs....

Re: STOP playing Sweet Caroline after the 3rd period.
They played Sweet Caroline at the Iowa game on Saturday. Because of this, we should play In Heaven there is no Beer on our next home game. Good times on Hawkeyenation.com after the 2010 Wisconsin Game! -
Re: STOP playing Sweet Caroline after the 3rd period.
By the reaction of most of the people in JTS when the song is played, it would appear the people that don't like it are in the minority. It's a fun song that gets the whole stadium going. Plug your ears if you don't like it.

Re: STOP playing Sweet Caroline after the 3rd period.
They should just go back to playing it at the end of every third quarter. Why does the ISU AD allow a whiny minority to place limits on one of the better traditions that ISU has. Paul Rhoads loves it. The players like it.
Yet a whiny minority of losers that would complain if you gave them a million dollars in quarters instead of $100 dollar bills is being allowed to ruin something that is a fun tradition at ISU.
What is with the we should only play it after a win crowd? Can't we play it twice? Are there some royalties that we can't afford? Are you so busy game planning between the 3rd and 4th quarter that you can't be distracted? Are you afraid the coaches won't be able to hear you complaining about their play calling? Does it make you sick to your stomach to watch people enjoying themselves?
I hate that ISU gives these whiny crybabies a voice by limiting when they are playing Sweet Caroline. The worst thing ISU could have done was to validate these folks because they won't stop until everyone has to share in their misery.

Arnaud and I discussed this on the call-in show last Thursday. He said that the players don't even realize it is being played. That's just one guy's opinion, but I thought I'd share it as it is on topic.

If it was reserved for wins only, people would appreciate it more.

When it was started iirc it was only played for games we were ahead at the break between 3q\4q. For UNI\Iowa it was held until after we won, signalling a change for this year. I liked this change, it makes it a celebration song.
I think it should be either played after the game, or late in the game if victory is well in hand.

They used to play it after every 3rd quarter, and it was always treated the same as it is now that it has been moderated by some ridiculous rule that makes no sense.
Is the point that we are just supposed to sit around and pout between the 3rd and 4th quarter if we are behind?

Re: STOP playing Sweet Caroline after the 3rd period.
I'm not sure if the wavy arms and swaying limp hands remind me more of the Kansas wheat wave or the Texas A&M cheeerleaders. We're on the 8 yard line and about to score in a tight ball game and the lovey gentle lyrics of Sweet Caroline is played? Sorry, leave the touchy-feely stuff for after the game is won.
