Re: Who tries to poach Rhoads?
I'm sure he'll stay and I would imagine JP will figure out a way to double his salary at least, but I do find it hilarious that there are a lot of people who say things like.....
"He already makes a lot of money, what's an extra million or two, when you're already making $1m/yr?"
I'm sure there are people in other parts of the world that can't imagine how anyone would need any more than $50k/yr, but I'm guessing every poster on here would jump ship to a different company today if they could triple their salary.

Re: Who tries to poach Rhoads?
The incentives in his contract make up for pay right now.
If CPR gets 1 more win this season he will get a $200,000 bonus.

Give the man everything we can. I think he is an ISU lifer, but for God's sake pay the man.
Boom.....transfer the karma -
Re: Who tries to poach Rhoads?
IIRC, when he was hired, CPR's dad said he loves Iowa State but he also wants to win. So my take is: he'll leave if he decide he can't win. But the victories and upsets should be more than enough to convince him that he can win in Ames.
If EIU can go bowling consistently, why can't Iowa State ?

This is correct but I bet he realizes that we can't compete with Auburn, PSU or other big schools from the salary standpoint. However, I believe he knows that, let's say going to certain schools, he could risk getting fired after 2-3 "not so good" seasons using their standards (7-5 or 8-4). There are different stress factors hAt ISU, he's probably guaranteed to have his name immortalized when he retires.

Re: Who tries to poach Rhoads?
For some reason, I don't picture Rhoads leaving for any amount of money. Don't ask me why I feel this way, but I do.

I don't think for a second that we'll be able to pay him $3+ million like some of these schools, but we have to get him in the neighborhood of $2m, IMO. That is how much Snyder makes at K-State and I see no reason we can't get in that ballpark.
The fact is, Paul has proven he can do more with less than just about any coach in the country. He's also a true Cyclone and will be content here, as long as we make a commitment to winning, and he's paid fairly.

I think the real question is who doesn't try to poach Rhoads from us?

It was reported in the game thread last night that JP tried giving CPR a pay raise this last offseason. CPR declined the pay raise and told JP to sink that $$$ into facilities. If that isn't love and dedication to the university that you work for then I don't know what is. I've heard that same thing....nice to see someone who'd rather ensure success for the future w/facilities than pocket more for himself.

Gonna need to double the money. At least.

Rhoads is such a good fit for Iowa State, I can't imagine him leaving. I don't think he'd leave for a Pitt, or an Auburn, or any other team he's coached for just because it's that school. Rhoads is actually committed to this university and this program, and he wants to succeed here. And he's doing it. Now we need to make it consistant, and win 8 a year... but that'll come. With Rhoads, I believe that will come.

What's better? $2 million a year for 8+ years here, or $3 million a year for 3 years at another program that may not be patient in allowing you to build a program? I'm not saying he couldn't win big somewhere else, not saying that at all. Just saying that its a risky proposition.
Not only that, but its so cheap to live here in Iowa that your dollars go much further than they would in many other places.
