He is worth 3 mill right now. Pay him that and up the assistants money. Our revenues continue to grow, give it to the coaches. I am upping my donation again next season specifically for CPR.

CPR is doing a great job. Love the guy. At ISU, he can have seasons of 6, 7, or 8 wins and he is an icon. Do that at the national powers and you are fired and can go down the ladder as quickly as you went up. CPR has a tremendous upside at ISU. He could be revered like Johnny Orr is. A coaching legend who is loved for all he gave ISU. Same thing goes for Coach Fennelly. And Earle Bruce was on his way to that status when he left. And now says, "I never should have left Iowa State." Follow Earle Bruce's career after his stint at Ohio State. Stops at UNI, and Colorado State. How do you think CPR's message of ALL IN sells if he leaves for more money? Or his mantra of "I am so proud to be your football coach." If CPR would leave, all those locker room videos would just be meaningless garbage from the file of another superficial Gene Chizik like coach.
When Gene Chizik was hired, Pollard told him that you win 8 or 9 games here and they will give you the key to the state. At other schools they will show you the door.
Pollard will give CPR and the staff some increases in pay. While continuing to build the facilities needed. We are on course to bowl in the south endzone at some point in the future IMO. We need to consistently get 52,000 plus. The time is coming. Season tickets should be a record next year. It is a great time to be a Cyclone. ALL IN. We need to buy into that, hook, line, and sinker.
Disagree. You keep giving moderate pay increases while giving him the extra facilities and tools that he needs to compete. If you give the coach 3 million like Iowa did with Ferentz, then that takes a milion or more away from the improvements needed for ISU.
Put this in perspective. It was a great win. But we have only won 6 games. We have not ever gone to a bowl bigger than the Insight. We have not won a conference championship. We have not finished in the top 3 of the conference. You guys throw money around like Monopoly money. Joe Pa was making $400k plus at Penn State. Some coaches are about more than money. IMO, CPR is one of those coaches. Giving him moderate increases with BIG bonuses for results. THAT is the way to handle it.
I disagree. The improvements we need requires a huge done (i.e. SEZ). We need to build a foundation now and that starts with cementing your coach. Start winning 8 games a year and competing for Big 12 championships, donors will come out of the woodwork.
Coaches Hot Seat 2011
Just looking at those...
1.) UCLA
2.) Penn State, of course
3.) I would have said Ohio State... not Earle Bruce again... until last night
4.) If Kansas can pay Paul $2*10^6+ and he only really wants money and likes the low expectations and recruiting Texas...
5.) Oregon State? Yes/no?
6.) A&M
Not really sure looking at UNC or Boston College, but I would doubt those... I'm glad the Michigan job seems locked up now, too, since that was my worst fear last year if Rhoads kept having such success.
He is a legend among us now. A god amongst us humble beings. His name will be spoken alongside Johnny Orr. He gets this here, at home, where he grew up. He won't leave. And we don't want him to.
I have said that I agree with increases for CPR and the staff. And Big Bonuses for excellent records. We had the same discussions 10 years ago with Coach Mac. How did that turn out?
Your heads are too far in the clouds if you think he wouldn't leave for a team like OSU.
Thats an unfair comparison. CPR is taken down decade old demons that Mac couldnt touch.
Really? Mac was the first ISU coach in history to win 9 games in a season. Mac was the first ISU coach in history to win a bowl game. Mac was the first ISU coach in history to go to 5 consecutive bowl games.
Don't misunderstand me. I love CPR and feel he and the staff deserve pay increases. He is doing a great job. But IMO, to get the $3 million plus that some of you are throwing around we need to get to a BCS bowl or contend for a conference championship. And you need to give the staff increases as well. It can't all go to the head coach or you end up in a situation like we had with Mac. We weren't paying the assistants enough to retain them.
Play to win>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Play not to lose.
The only comparison that should matter between the two.
I appreciate what McCarney did for our program but this is a new era.
Mac was also fortunate to take over at ISU when the Big 12 especially the Big 12 North was down not to mention Iowa. This may be the strongest the Big 12 has ever been this season AND he has to play a round robin schedule. Mac had his shot and whiffed. Give me CPR in those games against KU and Mizzou to decide the North in the 2000's, CPR would have won those games.
No doubt Coach will get the inquiry from PSU.
Being an Iowan, I'm sure he remembers the departure of Johnny Majors and Earle Bruce for "greener pastures". If he is like this Iowan, I'm sure it left a bitter taste in his mouth.
