Re: Who tries to poach Rhoads?

If I'm JP, I pay a visit to CPR's house the day after the season ends and ask "what do you need to win?" Give him the dollars and facilities, but also make him feel that he's more than just the football coach; he's a partner in developing our athletic department.

We won't ever be able to offer more money than OSU or PSU. If it ever happens, it will be a long, long time before we can match those schools' facilities, tradition, and "brand". But what we can offer that few (if any) other programs can, is the opportunity to sculpt a program, make it your own, and be anointed a saint in your native state. That's got to count for something.

Actually folks, the good news for us is perhaps the Houston coach is top grabs.

[QUOTE=ISUAlum2002;2514578]Time to start donating, my fellow Cyclone fans, if you aren't already. I'll be honest, I have not been donating. That will start with my season ticket renewal next year.

Good that you are going to donate.....donate to the National Cyclone Club for ALL our sports and SAVE $100 FOR THE GRIDIRON CLUB AS EVERY DOLLAR STAYS IN THE FOOTBALL PROGRAM. An extra $100 does wonders if more fans would just do it.
They doubled the Gridiron membership just this year and still need more.

    JUST DO IT.

pretty simple...as long as his parents are around we won't need to throw money around...however once they go away we will need to pay the man.

Re: Who tries to poach Rhoads?

You guys are delusional if you think CPR will stick around for anything close to what he's currently at. If you listen to him on the radio, he has been upset with the tailgaters who leave at half and never come back. He's a very confident dude and I'm sure he feels like he deserves to make much more than he is, and how can you not agree with that.

This year went a long way to showing him all the true ISU fans we have, the crowds have been awesome this year. But we need to keep it up and can't just sit back and assume this will continue. I'll be upping my donation level, and if everyone wants to experience more feelings like last night and today, then I suggest you do the same.

His father is now a widower and lives nearby. There are more important things than money and CPR strikes me as the kind of guy who realizes that.

Waiting on a pretty nice check in the mailbox in a couple weeks. Rest assured i'm gonna be sharing that with ISU in some fashion. I think it's time I become a member of the Gridiron Club.
Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

4.) If Kansas can pay Paul $2*10^6+ and he only really wants money and likes the low expectations and recruiting Texas...
    5.) Oregon State? Yes/no?
    6.) A&M

Not really sure looking at UNC or Boston College, but I would doubt those... I'm glad the Michigan job seems locked up now, too, since that was my worst fear last year if Rhoads kept having such success.
I don't see CPR leaving for schools like KU and Oregon State even if they offer the big $$. I think we may have to worry when schools like OSU, Penn State, and UT come sniffing around though.

I'm not worried about Penn State. They are now toxic. They may actually never recover.
Nebraska and Michigan are having a hell of a time getting back up off the mat, and that's without the biggest sports scandal in history.

Re: Who tries to poach Rhoads?

Just because he loves Iowa State doesn't mean he'll stick around forever.
Lifetime financial security for kids, national championship and need for change can drive the best of us to new jobs.
Not saying Rhoads will go or will stay. But to assume either is a bit premature.

If I had a job that paid 60k at ISU, and another university came along and offered me 200k for a similar job, I would at least consider the offer.

Yeah, i wouldnt touch the penn state job with a 10 foot pole, thats a horrible situation to have to go into. Not only with the scandal, but you've got a fanbase that's got a good chunk ****** off that JoePa was fired in the first place.

You dont want to be the guy hired after a legend leaves\is fired. You want to be the guy after that guy.

Re: Who tries to poach Rhoads?

I did not read the whole thread, but I have been believing for some time that CPR will get a raise and extension right after the season, especially since the new ISU President has been named.
Friends don't let friends wear black & gold. Build a man a fire, you keep him warm for a day. Set a man on fire, you keep him warm for the rest of his life. Set a hawkeye fan on fire, you make Iowa a better place to live.

Re: Who tries to poach Rhoads?

All I will say is this.

CPR has had a signature win, or a almost signature win (Nebraska last year) each year he has been here. It is obvious he and his staff can recruit, but even more important it is obvious he can get the most out of his players.

For the first time, ISU had over 50,000 fans at each home game this year. That (and wins like this) is what will build South endzone seats.

ISU has found the football coach that can make this program a success, and truly take it to the next level.

JP better not let this one get away.

Re: Who tries to poach Rhoads?

JP has always said if other schools are showing interest in your coaches, that's a good sign. So you can be sure he has a plan to deal with it, especially in this case.

That said, this is somewhat of a unique situation since CPR isn't a carpetbagger and is not the type of person to hold the school hostage or go flirting with the big time schools just because. In fact he could very well be the next Bill Snyder in this league, only with a personality.
