I get that. What I'm saying is that they likely get so focused on being concise that they don't even notice if they make that mistake in their copy. Their editors are probably mostly focused on time and length, so they would miss it.
It should be easy, but I'd bet that they're more distracted than we give them credit for. I love making fun of them for this stuff, but I know it's easy as a writer focused on one particular thing to miss something else.
Could be. I'm sure there's a lot more to the process than meets the eye (or ear )
Sometimes I'm less bothered if there's a situation where the confusion would be more likely to happen (fictional example: Iowa State pulls an upset against a team that Iowa frequently plays, e.g. Big Ten team). This doesn't appear to be one of those situations. As large a stage as that was, with as much buzz, seems like a careless oversight.
Always makes me wonder: how often is the U/State mistake made, compared to what we ISU fans notice? Is Arizona State misidentified as Arizona quite often? What about Florida/Florida State (seems as if odds would be lower on that)
