You mean we just beat the #2 team in the country, we're going bowling, and you're still reeling from last years Nebby loss? Dude let it go. Move on. I understand it would have been nice to pull that one out, but don't dwell on the negatives and what could have been. CPR and the mighty Cyclones have turned the page, so should we.

Why even now, 2 bowls in his first 3 look quite fine for the state of the program right now.
One more thing: One of the Summer preseason publications mentioned something like "If Iowa State gets a second bowl in Rhoad's third year, they will have earned it." Can you tell if it was Athlon's, Street & Smith's, Lindy's, or The Sporting News? I can't recall because I didn't buy it. All these magazines do every Summer is pick ISU to finish dead last in the Big 12. Fine. We NEVER do. Never will. We've also been underdogs in every game except Kansas. No line for UNI. That's ok too as we will probably be underdogs in our bowl no matter who it is.
can't play the what if game. if we win that game the entire history of the college football landscape. it is just like when you go back in time how you are never supposed to change anything because it could change EVERYTHING.
imagine we win that game, EVERYTHING would have changed. preparation, coaching, playing, emotion. attitude. perhaps we win, cpr goes to celebrate and wrecks his car and dies. would we be bowl eligible with a new coach right now? doubt it. or we go bowling and the football team's plane crashes. would we be bowl elligible now?
i realize this is an unnecessarily tragic example of the "what ifs" game but that could have happened as a direct result of a nebby win. saying that if we won that game, we would have went bowling and everything would remain the same this season is just not plausible.
I think this takes the pressure off. Your thoughts?:twitcy:
Re: That missed fake extra-point vs. Nebraska last year looms larger by the hour!
This is quite possibly the most silly thread I have ever read on this board. Not sure why I am validating it with a response. That was absolutely the correct call because they had been working on it in practice, and it was wide open. ISU just didn't execute, but I don't blame anyone. I know the kid was trying and would like to have it back.
More importantly, at ISU you have to have a coach who is willing to lay it all on the line like that (think of the onside kick against OSU last week). Even at a place like LSU you ideally need a coach to call plays like that, which they have in Les Miles. Think about all the crazy stuff he has done in his career.
Re: That missed fake extra-point vs. Nebraska last year looms larger by the hour!
I'm actually slowly forgetting that play. It sucked at the time to know that we were that close and it was only the matter of execution that kept us from completing it.
However, whats done is done. CPR and this team continues to chip away at all of the heartache that Cyclone fans have had to endure over the years. Lets face it, before he got here we remembered a few of the good times (Both Insight Bowls, Seneca, "The Run" The 2002 Iowa game) but we could go on for days about the missed field goals, the bothced extra point etc.
CPR and the Cyclones will continue to push those hurtful memories out of our heads or at least to the back of our minds and replace them with these positive memories!! I just dont see it any other way.

I knew that heartbreaker would linger until ISU came through in a similar situation.
That similar situation was last weekend.
If NU '10 was just another in a long string of missed opportunities like that, and it happens over & over, then the sting might not subside.
If the OSU upset becomes just an isolated "biggie," it's a parallel issue (in a different way). The sooner ISU can show it wasn't a fluke, the better.
Yes, I said "the Sooner."

Onside kick vs Texas last year
Fake punt vs Mizzou
Onside vs OSU
Fake punt vs Kansas
The only 3 I can think of that didn't work were the fake pat vs Nebraska, and onsides vs Baylor and Iowa(09).
6 to 3 conversion ratio is pretty damn good. Can anyone think of another attempt?
Yea and you can't even call the baylor onside kick this year a failed attempt. We executed it perfectly.

It doesn't mean anything, just noticed an interesting coincidence. Here's hoping we score more than 24 pts vs Oklahoma. Go Clones!

That and it was just an offside call. So we just tee'd it up again and kicked it deep, I believe. It's not like they recovered and it killed field position.
