Re: Don't freak out (Rhoads job question).
I'm one who tends to believe that assistant's salaries and facilities are more important to Rhoads than his salary.
Of course, you still need to keep it competitive.

Of course, you still need to keep it competitive. I'm pretty much sure that CPR has said exactly this in the past. JP asked him what he wanted and salary was not on the top of his wish list.
CPR has an athletic director who is commted to being "All In" for the football program.

Re: Don't freak out (Rhoads job question).
Illinois is a much more fertile recruiting area than Iowa. With the instability of the Big 12, I think it's foolish for people to consider it a lateral move.
I don't think Coach would leave for Illinois but anyone who claims it would be a "lateral move" has their head in the sand.

The new tv revenue will be hitting then.
Turner gill is a prime example of just looking at your wage. Grab a large payout and in 2 years you are begging for a job and hoping to be an assistant somewhere. I feel CPR understands this and that is why I think you can move him up over a couple years to that 2 mm mark that would put him in a top 30-35 paid area.

CPR's possible incentives are greater than his salary. His incentives are actually 3rd highest in all FBS... College coaches cash in – USATODAY.com
Incentives include:
Rhoads will receive $100,000 for every regular-season victory beyond No. 7 and would get that same amount if the Cyclones reach the Big 12 Championship game, win the Big 12 championship or are ranked in the top 10 of the final USA Today/ESPN coaches’ poll.
He would earn $50,000 if ISU is ranked between No. 11 and 25 in the coaches’ poll.
An appearance in the Gator, Cotton, Holiday or Alamo bowls earns Rhoads $50,000, while playing in the Sun, Insight, Independence, Texas or another lower tier bowl would mean a $25,000 payment.
Rhoads also gets $25,000 for winning a bowl game or being named Big 12 or national coach of the year.

We know what CPR can do....Gill wasn't a known at a big time program like CPR is proving. I think his deal needs to be near $2 Million.

Re: Don't freak out (Rhoads job question).
Yea, Illinois might be better for recruiting than Iowa, but we get most of our talent from the Texas, Florida area. At Illinois, you would have a harder time grabbing ten Texas recruits I feel. IMO this is definitely lateral at best. Illinois seems to churn coaches. Not real stable.

No one knows who these "talking radio heads" are? It was probably Travis & Tim aka the HuskerHawks in the morning

I don't think Coach would leave for Illinois but anyone who claims it would be a "lateral move" has their head in the sand. If the Clones keep building and become more consistent winners, we won't have to worry about a landing spot if the Big 12 were to fall apart.

As a semi-Illini fan with hardcore Illini in my family, even they would say it is a lateral move. There is no passion or dedication to Illinois football. They have pretty much been mediocre for the last 20+ years. The two BCS games were flukish seasons, a combination of a great conference schedule and a lot of lucky bounces. Evidenced by the hard falls they took in the seasons following. Illinois isn't that much more fertile of a recruiting area and you are competing with the entire Big 10 plus Notre Dame for the blue chippers.

Re: Don't freak out (Rhoads job question).
Just to re-iterate an earlier point. Radio heads are generally uninformed.
Larry Cotlar today was stupid enough to say:
That he hasn't watched the ISU vs OK State game
Missouri will be playing in Ames next year
OK State was the only ranked team ISU beat this year
Larry Cotlar is not all radio heads but ... And yes, I know we shouldn't post about these idiots.

To all of the people who say Rhoads would never leave...I disagree. Coaches (including Rhoads) have egos...which is how they got where they are. To see his name at the bottom of the Big 12 in salary year after year with what he is doing here can't be fun. Get him to $2 million and we won't have to worry about him leaving unless its for a major, high-paying job.
I love my job and don't want to leave but if a competitor offered me 2-3 times my current salary, I'd be an idiot not to consider it.
