    OL Question

If Kelechi is hands down our best tackle and Hicks is hands down our best gaurd, why not (in preseason) move one or the other to have a dominant side of the line?

I have wondered this as well. You see other teams do this, maybe just personal preference. No idea. Would like to know however.

    Re: OL Question

Not for sure but maybe in zone read offense the guard pulls quite often so it kind of makes it a dominant side with Hicks pulling left

    Re: OL Question

They are the best run blockers. It helps to have a mobile, quicker left guard who can pull on sweeps and runs to the right. You want to have a balance of quicker linemen next to the strong, less mobile blockers to offset each others strengths and weaknesses.

The reason that we are having more sucess is this line's strong suit (especially Hicks and KO's) strength is run blocking. Barnett's strength is the zone read and is quicker and a better runner than Jantz. Jantz was a mobile drop back passer but had an inexperience and at times very ineffective pass blocking offensive line.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Re: OL Question

Might have something to do with pass protection. Right Guard would be probably the 4th best pass protector on the team, and if Hicks is suspect there, it might be a good place to "hide" him. Could also be something as simple as the coaches not wanting to change his position. No idea what the real answer is.
Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.

    Re: OL Question

If you think Hicks doesn't look very mobile so put him with Kelechi and have the other guard pull then all the backside tackle would have to do is slow them down...and then consider the help of hammerschmidt on the strong side...pretty solid running strong side I would think
