CPR will coach Iowa next, as soon as ferentz becomes HC of the steelers.

I'm not too concern about him leaving real soon.

I can't believe you would say this on a Cyclone message board. Florida can pretty much have their pick from a number of good, high profile coaches. Why would you not want Rhoads to stay at Iowa State as long as possible and have Florida pick another high profile coach? Possibly the best thing to come along for our football program in years and you WANT him to leave after a year or two?! Get the **** out!

Pretending that Rhoads will never leave isn't going to make him magically stay... Even the "loyal" McCarney was looking to get out, what makes you think Rhoads is any different than any other college football coach that has ever coached? If he keeps this up he will leave, I might as well hope he goes to another team I like.... Relax

Re: One Job Rhoads is interested in

As long as Coach Rhoads is here he will want what is best for the ISU football program because he loves ISU and it is also what is best for him. That being said I think that If a top 10 maybe even 15 program in a BCS conference comes a courting, he will seriously consider moving on. If a top 5 program like Texas, Ohio State, Florida or a few others come calling he will be gone. I hope he is our Hayden Fry or Bill Snyder but guys like that are rare and those guys also never got offers from top 5 programs.

I'm usually an optimist, I have NEVER thought ISU wasn't going to win a game before the game started. In the case of a coach staying or leaving I am a realist.

Im not sure what sort of insider knowledge you have, but this is the first time I have ever heard that McCarney was looking at getting out of ISU. Pretty much everything I have ever heard about the guy speaks to the contrary.

I'm not pretending he'll never leave. I really don't think it's something we need to plan on right now though. Greg Schiano has done similar things at Rutgers and he's still there. If you look at the big coaching jobs, which is what I think it would take for him to leave, he hasn't really been mentioned yet. Ohio State didn't look at him, and it doesn't sound like he's a candidate for Penn State either. Those are two jobs I would have been worried about him taking if he was offered.

In addition to Penn State and Ohio State, I could see him leaving for an LSU, Alabama, possibly Tennessee, Florida State, or even your precious Florida if they came calling. But I don't see him leaving Iowa State for many other places.

He interviewed at Michigan State and TCU, that was pretty common knowledge at the time.

Fwiw, Chip Brown tweeted some crap about aTm possibly looking or not looking at CPR.

As long as Cyclone fans and the ISU community do not want to lose CPR, he will remain at ISU. If we provide CPR with what he needs, he is not going anywhere. Unfortunately, our history would indicate CPR may need to use fear to leverage $ome fan$ in to being "all-in".

The statement in bold is exactly why if the right opportunity arises he will leave. He knows that one or 2 bad years due to a poor recruiting class or injuries or a bad hire at a coordinator spot and ISU fans would turn on him, especially if we pay him more money and upgrade our facilities. The same fans saying he is loyal and will never leave could be calling for his head if we have a couple 3-4 win seasons in a row, he knows that. ISU is not a premier job so if one becomes available to him he would be a fool not to take it.

Not all coaches leave after success (Gary Patterson for example), and I think you have to admit there is something different about Rhoads and his fit at Iowa State. No one can say what he will do, so don't make assumptions either way.
