That's a good point. But doesn't it still seem a little morally weird that universities can make money off of players while the players can't make money off themselves. Such as in the Ohio State jersey situation. Universities can sell a players jersey but players can't sell their own.
Who cares. If they players were not getting these things, ISU would not be in a bowl game. Is that what we want?
for people ******** at the players for getting gifts...grow up a tad...these guys earned it for their hard work this year...how about you guys go through all the practices/2-a-days/media sessions/ and everything else a college athlete goes through...saying it's unfair to get a present as a reward is hilarious and misinformed.
Most of the people are jealous they don't get anything or don't understand the work that's involved...i'm not an athlete but know of a scholarship player at IWCC and even there it's tough to balance grades and work...you try it?
rant over.
Sounds like a lot, but in reality the players should all get a cut of the bowl game gate. These guys work their butts off all year.
I guess you are misunderstanding what I'm trying to get across, and I apologize for that. My point is none of these kids are getting rich playing college football and staying in the rules. No no one is going into the poor house either. My statement was based on the poster I originally quoted who acted like they are all rolling around like Rock Stars.
As far as the player I knew. I was just going on what his dad told me. And with his parents paying for the first 3 years themselves, their pockets were pretty light by the time he got a scholly.
I just don't like the idea of "You're getting a free education, what else do you want?" Most average students who plan on getting an education would have a tough time putting all the hours in that most student athletes do.
the problem is not that the players don't get paid, its that bcs football makes huge profits tax free. Allow the govt to bet their cut, tax the rich, feed the poor. The money Is spiralling out of control but its still not bad deal to get a full ride and if you are really poor, some Pell grant money or other financial aid to ensure you have some pocket change...coaches making 5myn is a bigger issue than some college kids getting some bowl gifts though
If your gonna hate....hate the system, not the players
The housing stipend is based on University Residence Hall fees. So if you find a house/apt cheaper than the dorm then you can pocket the remaining money for your spending money.
