Re: Gary Simon
I don't think everyone calling him stupid is helping us get him to come here.... just a thought. He can still take it two or three more times and be better prepared.

Re: Gary Simon
I don't see how people do poorly on the act, outside of the math portion which is basic sophomore year of high school level stuff, it is entirely reading comprehension and grammar. the "science" portion is just reading graphs and lab reports and regurgitating information, i literally spent 0 time studying/preparing for it and got a 29 and a 31

I saw a tweet that Miami was really picking up in their interest. Miami is a pretty legit school, so I'd say the likely hood that he qualifies are pretty good.

Re: Gary Simon
YES PLEASE! I love the focus on defense this recruiting class seems to be. If we get him, we will have corners out the ying yang the next couple seasons.

Then, there is the issue of test norming and cultural bias.
There are a lot of reasons why not everyone may do well on standardized tests and it doesn't necessarily have to do with intelligence. Not all of our recruits come from your background and, in fact, a majority of those from outside of Iowa probably don't.

Re: Gary Simon
Not sure what everyone is so worried about that test score for. An 18 on the ACT is fine as long as he has like a C average in school. He's not the biggest grades risk we've taken in the last couple years.

That said, I don't see a problem with his score. Everyone has their own challenges in life. I hope he overcomes those obstacles and ends up in a Cyclone uniform on Saturdays!

Re: Gary Simon
So I didn't realize that we were recruiting him to be an honors student. I thought that I saw this thread in the ISU Football wall.
Must've been wrong because he looks like he could be a great cornerback for us.

Re: Gary Simon
I feel I am a fairly smart guy, but I did awful on the ACT. I think I got a 19 the first time & 21 the second. Slow reader so I ended up just filling in blanks for about half of it and I did awful on the science. Math was my highest score which leveled out the score a bit. Not to make excuses, but I am more on the creative side so these types on analytical tests tend to make me lose my patience. I can sit and paint or draw for hours, but doing math for an hour or two makes me want to slit my wrists.

Yeah, well, I got a 36 with a 14 on the reading because I got sick of it and quit. That's how awesome I am.

Lol, for what it's worth, the guy in my class that got the highest ACT score in high school is a small town bartender now working for under $10/hr. ACT=Nothing outside of scholarships. If it doesn't get you a scholarship or entrance into your school of choice (If a specific one is in mind), than it means nothing later in life.
