If we lost Herman I'm pretty confident we'd bring in a new OC.
I think his offense will finally be up to full speed next year, with recruiting his type of players, and everyone being very familiar with the offense. Hope he stays around a few more.
Bring back Robert McFarland :jimlad:
Losing Pete Hoener(sp?) in the early 2000's killed us and set our program back big time. I'd hate for this to happen again.
6 weeks ago I would have been ecstatic to hear that TH would leave. However, his turnaround with Barnett has been remarkable. I think he is the right guy for ISU now. I hope he gives us a couple more years. It would be nice if we can find that OC in waiting and get him on the staff. Maybe some D2 or D3 young OC that has really shown something?
Here is where ISU has ranked in the Big 12 as far as scoring offense for Herman's 3 years:
2009: 12/12 at 20.5 ppg
2010: 11/12 at 21.7 ppg
2011: 9/10 at 23.5 ppg
The average scoring offense in the Big 12 this year was 34.6 ppg. Nationally this year, ISU is 86th in ppg. There is no way ISU can make any moves beyond 6-6 playing in the Big 12 with that kind of offense production. This offense isn't anywhere close to where it needs to be after three years.
I sure hope the folks who say these problems are mostly talent-related are right. I kind of doubt it myself...
No, I know who Steve Loney is but I'm talking about Hoener who I believe went to Texas A&M. IIRC he was the one who implemented the "Cyclone" offense that everyone in the country started copying. It was the one where we'd always put JJ Moses in motion on almost every play and there was always the option for the reverse.
Wow, people are acting like the program falls apart if Herman leaves. Let him go if he thinks that will end up being good for him. He hasn't reinvented the spread offense. This isn't even the spread offence he ran at Rice, that was a pass based spread, we are a run based spread offense. The offense picked up this season when JB entered the lineup because he comes from a spread offense background. Steele didn't. It's not that hard to call for a read option on 60% of the play calls.
i live in Ohio and have some quality inside info into the OSU program. They told me it is a done deal. Herman is going to Ohio State to be the QB Coach.
