Re: Herman to Ohio State?
Why would he leave an offensive coordinator position to become a QB coach?
Re: Herman to Ohio State?
I think this is a semi blow to the system. But we will live.

A few names have been tossed around as potential QB coaches, from former UM QB coach Scot Loeffler last week to ISU's Tom Herman this week. Another name to keep an eye on if Herman flames out is UConn QB coach Joe Moorhead, a Fordham grad who interviewed for the head job at his alma mater Tuesday, and is also rumored as a potential hire for Akron. The talk seems to be trending in the direction of Herman.
Re: Herman to Ohio State?
Not that it would be the end of the world if he left, but why would he leave an OC job for a QB coach? I don't know what the pay differences are, though. And if he is wanting to be a head coach someday, he would be taking a step backwards for his future.
That being said, I hope he doesn't leave. We need continuity in our coaching staff.
Re: Herman to Ohio State?
I am sure Herman's ultimate goal is to become a head coach at some point down the road and taking a step back from being an OC to simply being a QB coach... well I just don't see how that is an advantage for him in the long run.
Re: Herman to Ohio State?
Count me in as seeing this being a step backwards for Herman. Regardless of differences in pay or prestige at Ohio State, a BCS conference coordinator > any position coach anywhere.

Exactly. A QB coach, even from Ohio State, probably would not get an FBS level coaching job without going through an OC position there or somewhere else again afterward.

Of course it's a step backward in terms of coaching rank. But is being a QB coach at Ohio State worth more than OC at Iowa State? In terms of pay, visibility, and career potential I think a strong case could be made.
Re: Herman to Ohio State?
well i beleive Urban calls his own plays does he not? Would be a dumb move if you ask me, and a loss for us, but what ev. happens all the time. Okie State did alright after losing their cordinators.
Re: Herman to Ohio State?
I doubt he's leaving,,,
If it DID happen, his leaving would help solidfy CPR's staying. CPR is not going to be in the (outside) market without a head offensive coach and a defensive coach that is 65+ years old.

Only really makes sense if CPR highly encouraged him to find another place of employment... which seems a bit early for that.

Heard Herman on the call in show one night and he made a comment about it being the first complement he's received since he's been here. Sounded to me like he needs to bristle up a bit before he tries moving up the ladder.

Being able to learn from the offensive mind of Urban Meyer would be great for any offensive coordinator. Herman is still young...it may be a good career move for him.
Re: Herman to Ohio State?
I heard this too yesterday and I didn't buy it. Would be a step back for him. I have no doubt that Ohio State would be able to pay a QB coach the equivalent of what an OC would make at Iowa State, but it would still be a step back in prestige and career and I've never heard of a coach make that kind of move voluntarily.
