Record on 4th and?

In the CPR era, we have often went for it on 4th and. Anyone know what our success rate has been? It feels like it has been pretty high, especially during the game as opposed to desperation at the end of a game.

Gotta be really high on the fake punts. I can't remember one that didn't work off the top of my head.

2011 15 of 27 for 55.6% (6th)
2010 9 of 23 for 39.1% (12th)
2009 7 of 12 for 58.3% (4th)
Total 31 of 62 for 50% I'll take that!

Sorry, I can't give you more detail about how many of those were the end of game desperation 4th and forever...

By the way, so far in 2011 ISU has gone for it on 4th down more than any other team in the league (2nd, KU-26; 3rd, Baylor-23).

Clones went 2/9 vs Texas and Mizzou on 4th down.
Remove those 2 stinkers and they were monsters on 4th down for the rest of the year(13/18).

ISU was 11/11 in the games vs UNI/Iowa/Baylor/Tech/OSU. That's money.

Cyclones opponents were only 4/11. And I can recall a handfiul of 4th and 1 run stops made by the defense. The opponents were on about a 70% conversion clip the last 4 years.

On another interesting note, ISU has nearly lead the league on on-sides kicks during the Rhoads era:

2011 1 for 1 (100%)
2010 1 for 1 (100%)
2009 0 for 2 (0%)
If the Baylor kick counted (

) that would be a total of 3 for 5 or 60%.

Even with the botched call on the Baylor kick, only Texas has been better during that span (1 for 1).

Big 12 stats indicate that no team has tried an on sides kick against ISU during the Rhoads era, however we all know that isn't true (Tech, 2010,

) That is a three way tie for first with MU (0-3) and KU (0-1).

They tried an onside vs Iowa in 09....who was the other opponent?

Yes, the play "never happened" due to penalty (just as a pass attempt would be negated if an offsides penalty was accepted on an incomplete pass) and they kicked it away since the surprise was gone.

I don't know off hand who the other was against. Since I've gotten us thus far, it sounds like a good project for you...
