Re: Penn State vacancy
Who in their right mind would want to be the one to follow Paterno? No way for coaches with a future. I could see a Turner Gill fitting there. He's above reproach, unlike what they have had.

Re: Penn State vacancy
Rhoads isnt leaving Iowa States. Hes where he wants to be

- Good coach who has found success in that region
- Could be hired relatively cheap
- Held in high moral esteem
- Minority candidate with no connections to the university which would eliminate some of the "inbred" reputation of the Penn State family
In 3 to 4 years evaluate the perception and direction of the program.

Re: Penn State vacancy
My thing, public perception of the Penn St. football program is really horrid at the moment. Heck, it will last a decade or more for most. Honestly, if my kid was being heavily recruited right now, no way would I be supportive of Penn State. It sucks, but public perception is ugly....and I really would not want my kid playing for that institution where they have covered-up a truely horrible thing and tried to sweep it under the rug because football is the end-all, be-all out there. I just wouldn't want to subject them (my kid) to anything negative because of being associated with that program...that's all I am saying. (Of course, it would be my sons final choice on where he would like to attend college. *And I don't have kids yet by the way!)
People instantly think, "kid rape-U" or scandle "U" when thinking of Penn State right now, and it is so unfortunate. It will be really hard to get a top-tier coach to come in and try to bring back some normalcy to PSU IMO. So I agree with some posters here, that PSU should look for a real young buck, no ties to the U whatsoever right now.

Unintentionally poor choice of words aside, your comments are completely spot on. The only problem is that many of the young and promising coaches under the age of 35 still will not take that job: I think you are down to young and unpromising (the get lucky approach) or old and damaged (the get what you pay for approach) and either way, they are going to paying a heck of a lot more than Paterno's $500,000/year to get someone who might, if they are very lucky, keep the program on life support for the next several years.
I remember when SMU got the death penalty. This is intensely worse, and this isn't over, and we ought to know by now that "too big to fail" is a fairy tale.

Re: Penn State vacancy
Mr Ferentz would be stupid to not take that job if offered. Rhoads on the other hand would be stupid to take that job. Penn State is a mess, enough said.

Hawk fans can stop worrying - once Penn State takes a look at the "activities" that have happened under KF's watch they will want someone a little cleaner.

Lucky would be having large numbers of administrators in both institutions avoiding jail time and the athletic department avoiding dissolution.

Re: Penn State vacancy
I heard another rumor that Penn State is waiting for the NFL season to conclude their season and then they will officially contact Tim Tebow as the next head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Are you kidding? His throwing mechanics are all you need to know that he would never win a game as a Division I coach. He's just not NCAA-caliber.

Why does he want to take the job ? He's paid tons of money by EIU just to land on Gator or Outback Bowl. The Hawks are still happy if the Hawks are No. 3-5 in the B1G.

That is a ridiculous statement. He wins ball games. It's his leadership! Not to mention, he can make plays with his legs which is going to propel him into D-1 coaching success.
