Dan McCarney's Blindness
I have noticed that Dan McCarney is frequently pictured with sunglasses on, something I never remembered seeing him wear. I thought it might be a Florida or Texas thing, or maybe some subtle homage to Hayden Fry, but apparently, it is due to blindness and extreme light sensitivity in one of his eyes. UNT's Dan McCarney must wear sunglasses all the time to protect his eye | North Texas Mean Green News - Sports News for Dallas, Texas - SportsDayDFW -
Re: Dan McCarney's Blindness
First fired from ISU and now this. He's got to be feeling cursed. Maybe smited even.

Re: Dan McCarney's Blindness
I believe Ringo Starr has a similar condition where he has to wear sunglasses all the time.

Very, very fast children. [Relative to Indiana, that is]
But still, smaller than UNI's defensive line.
Again, I'm just going off eyeball here - I may very well be factually wrong. Their guards and tackles looked like small ends. Their ends looked like linebackers. Their linebackers looked like m&ms.
Still, they played well enough to win 5 games. That's a lot, compared to what they've been for several years.

Re: Dan McCarney's Blindness
Hadn't heard anything about him wearing shades all the time. Tough break for him.

Re: Dan McCarney's Blindness
I knew about the surgeries and need for the sunglasses but had not heard about the eventual blindness.

He should wear an eyepatch for road games.

I was diagnosed with the same thing....so I could get my windows tinted in high school.

Re: Dan McCarney's Blindness
can you imagine back when Mac was the head coach and CPR was an assistant not trying in a football game. You would be deamed unmotivational.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

Re: Dan McCarney's Blindness
I had forgotten about McCarney coaching at UNT this season. Looks like the first season wasn't too bad, 5-7 (4-4). I hope he can continue to have success. I hope this medical condition doesn't affect him too much.

Re: Dan McCarney's Blindness
I had a detached retina last year, and fortunately it was reattached with one surgery, although I can only see light and dark in about 1/3 of the visual field of that eye. Going through multiple surgeries only to have none of them work and become blind in that eye would be horrible.
