Generally I think things like that are called by the head coach. The plays themselves are likely drawn up by the coordinator (or special teams coach for fake punts and fieldgoals). But I think Rhoads is the one that says "Run that one play where the guy does the thing with the ball."
"No matter how many hours you study opponent films, there's only going to be eleven players on the other side of the line of scrimmage." - Sid Gillman
It's a simple game in which strategic beauty comes not from being surprised by some new clever trick, but from the sublime, routine brilliance of a master in his element.
I hope we keep that throw-back wheel route in the book. I only saw it once this whole season, but in seasons past we used it. It seems to be high percentage and usually lots yardage.
While the video quality is lacking this is a fake punt Navy pulled off versus Air Force this season. This is one of the best I have seen.

They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.

I'm pretty sure Haley gives the green light... especially if its 4th down. Flea flickers and WR/RB passes(have we done a RB pass?) would most likely be Herman. But I would assume our new OC would also throw in wrinkles like that.
Gadget plays have become a part of our identity. Paul Rhoads' signature wins have all been littered with these sorts of things, both on offense and on special teams. In a league where games are won with lots of offense, we're going to have to keep these sorts of things in the books to keep pace with more talented programs.

Doesn't CPR stay closely connected with the Special Teams? I'm thinking he may even be the Special Teams position coach. I don't think we have to worry about losing our gadget plays with TH leaving. CPR seems to have a great sense about them.

This was an awesome play. If the guy with the ball had stayed down for another second or two, he could have run halfway down the field before anyone knew he had the ball. The one guy runs right in front of him before he takes off.
