RU Fan's Frugal NYC Bowl Experience
I thought I would share some cost saving ideas with you Iowans.
That's right. While our RU team deserves to stay in approx. $1000/ night Hyatt Manhatten Hotel, eat in fancy restaurants, and be entertain in the finest of establishments, us peons... Fire, Lawjam, and myself will also be in NYC having our own NYC Bowl experience, crashing the activities (free ones, anyway) that will be availble to RU fans being held at the palatial hotel they are stay at. Meanwhile we ( Fire, Lawjam, Abro) will be a mere 3 blocks West at the more reasonable ($ 49.00 per night)
While the team eats at DelFrisco's Steakhouse or Daniels (approx 200/person), we must be a bit more resourceful, instead trying the fine fare of Ireland, the Emerald Isle, at The Blarney Stone, Lunch $5.99
After lunch at Blarney Stone, what better than a little fun on a NYC street with 3 Card Monte. You can't lose. Lots of laughs and profits
And after an afternoon of lunch at the Blarney Stone, a bit of 3 Card Monte, we shall walk to Central Park, perhaps buy a ......;, and relax before walking back to the HYATT Team Hotel for the big team Bowl Pep Party
And finally, here we are at the game, in our upper deck, nearly last row seats, purchased for $20 from a Boy Scout who clamed it was donated. Oh Well. RU.. Rah Rah !
Total cost of The Frugal Man's NYC Bowl Experince.. 2 Days , 1 Night in the Big Apple, food, beer, entertainment, and game ticket ----- Grand Total of $ 87.50.

Re: RU Fan's Frugal NYC Bowl Experience
Cool. You sound like my kind of people!
Once our Athletic Department announces our official events, we can begin planning our "crash strategy." All I know so far is that the Gridiron Club is staying at the Millennium Hotel on Broadway.
One of the simple things I haven't heard many people talk about is the value of a weekly subway/bus pass for $29. If you are going to be there for a few days and move around a lot, like we are, it will probably be worth the money. Of course, it will cost a little more to get into the city from New Jersey or Yonkers or elsewhere outside Manhattan if you are staying there, but once you in the city, the subway/bus system is great, particularly compared to cabs that are just going to sit in traffic near Times Square while the meters run.

Re: RU Fan's Frugal NYC Bowl Experience
Since Brian has made the announcement that it appears there will not be any "Official" Bowl activities for RU fans (not sure about ISU fans), our "Frugal" committee has decided to "Expand" the Frugal Mans Bowl Experience , and if ISU fans want to join in, hey , who are we to deny them some true NYC experiences.
So here goes:
As noted above after leaving our frugal hotel, lunching at Blarney Stone, some true NYC fun with 3 card monte, a walk up to Central Park for drink and smoke and nap, before heading to the HYATT ( where nothing may be going on anyway), some additions have been made.
We will subway down to CHINATOWN (Canal Street, & Mott Street neighborhood for you out of towners). Back alley dice games, and Duck appetizers and delicacies a must !
After our jaunt to Chinatown, it is only a mere few block walk uptown to NYC's famous LITTLE ITALY !!!
What fun to watch our opposing team's fans, meet up with and socialize with 'true NYC " Eyetalians !
Before heading Uptown, a stop in World famous Greenwich Village. Home of poets, musicians and Artists, for an IMPROMPTU PEP Rally, by the GREENWICH DANCERS !!
And finally, back Uptown we all head (by subway of course, for some Free street Entertainment, sure to give those female fans in the group some thrills. None other, than the famous Times Square Singing Cowboy
Hopefully , by the time we make back to the team hotel , The Hyatt , in midtown, they will have pulled something together. Reply | Quote | Edit | Delete -

"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion man" -

For you history buffs, here are 2 bar recommendations.
1. Fraunces Tavern, Oldest Tavern/bar in the USA, George Washingtons Favorite Tavern, where he bid adieu to his troops after we upset the Redcoats in the Revolutionary War (mostly linemen from NJ,NY,Pa, VA, LOL). In the shadows of the new Freedom Tower of Lower Manhatten. This is an excellent tip for you Iowans. Fraunces Tavern - New York, NY, 10004 - Citysearch
Another tip is McSorleys Old Ale House. Last bar in NYC to admit women. It's got a ton of history, in a funky neighborhood in the Lower East Side. You guys will love it. 15 East 7th St. -
