I hope somebody can be held accountable, because we can't expect a bend-not-break defense to bend-but-not-break for 20-minute stretches while the offense can't score a touchdown 1 out of 5 times when it reaches the opponent's 30-yard line.

It always seems like Iowa State always hires people who end up being a surprise...people who were not on the hot list for good hires Chiz, Rhoads, Jackson, Hoiberg

Rutger brought the house all day long. The qb has got to recognize and make plays quickly...the OC has got to play call around it. It's NOT all on the O line!

Yeah, lot of times, there were just more guys than we could block. Should probably have gone max protect more. Taken more shots down the field. We just dind't make them pay for blitzing, so they kept it up.
They found something that worked and stuck with it till we stopped it, and we never did.

My bet is Frost or Franklin...
Dark horse... Toledo head coach...was really impressed with what they did.

I don't think a "complete overhaul" is necessary at all. Simply getting consistenly good QB play will allow this offense to explode. Our young o-line appears to have talent and depth. Our game-tested runningbacks are good. Our best receivers are all returning - by my count, REYNOLDS CAUGHT LESS THAN 50% OF THE BALLS THROWN TO HIM, YET WE THREW TO HIM MORE THAN ANY OTHER RECEIVER. Just by not throwing to him anymore, our total receivers production should increase because the other receivers will catch more balls.
We had untimely false starts all year from our "best" o-linemen (KO and Hicks) because they had a hard time keeping up with speed rushers. We had 30+ turnovers. Limiting both of these next year will yeild an overall improvement even if the QB play doesn't get much better.

Re: Something to be excited about.
So, I thought Barnett didn't come back in due to injury, but from what I'm reading he was benched. Is that correct? If so, how does he not get put back in after the total **** show that Jantz put on??
Next year's Iowa/ISU game should be interesting with ISU having a new OC, and Iowa having a new DC. If Phil Parker gets the job then I will just chalk up a 2nd win in a row to ISU.

They found something that worked and stuck with it till we stopped it, and we never did. The only problem with max protect is it reduces the number of targets that the secondary has to account for - taking out WR to insert TE or blocking backs. Granted you could have those guys check the blitz and the release into a route if it doesn't come. My preference is to run quick throws the the areas the blitzers vacated, but that's not perfect either if the coverage can rotate fast enough.
It looked to me yesterday like the middle of the field was consistently open 5 - 10 yards downfield, and we never ran a drag/cross/square-in route through it. Instead we went to the sidelines where our WR were covered.

Re: Something to be excited about.
CPR should have channelled his inner Bo Schembechler and got rid of Herman the day he announced. Should have gone with "an Iowa State man will coach our offense in the bowl game". Would have added to the legend, and we would have had a better chance in this game.
