Williams: Bowl loss leads to QB questions

Re: Williams: Bowl loss leads to QB questions
Barnett should have never been pulled. He deserved to play out the game. Terrible decision by CPR no matter how you spin it.

ISU got beat by a team that nearly won the Big East. ISU finished 8th in the Big 12.
RU had the best overall record in the Big East. Now, come back at me and state that the Big East is not a good football conference, but you'll get an education when WVU does join the Big 12. They have a good football team. They get top notch recruits. They will win their fair share of games in the Big 12. ISU will have to be a really good football team to beat WVU when they finally meet.
ISU gained a great deal by being in a bowl, namely 20 more practice sessions. ISU can talk up being in a bowl game with recruits. ISU was in a great bowl, The Pinstripe Bowl. Check out Jamie's comments about being in NYC and being in the Pinstripe Bowl. He called Neinas to tell him that it was great. Check out Chris William's comments today about NYC and the Pinstripe Bowl. ISU won by going to a bowl. Period.
All the bicthing about NYC weather, and the game time temps were in the 50s. ISU went to a bowl game in a year that the pundits predicted ISU would win TWO football games.
Enough about the dark side. They was more bright side.

Good article. I agree that if Barnett hooked up with Lenz on that short, wide open play, the game turns out different. Fun season.

JB was pitiful early on. We needed some kind of spark, and I was glad coach attempted to switch it up. I would rather play to win, then continue to play who "deserves" to play (regardless of the quality of their play). If JB continued to play like that the rest of the game and had never been pulled, there would have been outrage on this board... I will always trust that CPR and crew know better than us fans.
Still proud of how this team performed this year and absolutely cannot wait until next season.

I was ok with giving SJ a look, but he needed to be pulled back out in favor of JB in the 2nd half after it was obvious he was not doing anything either.

Had ISU ever gone with a 2 QB system during a game this season, I wouldn't disagree with this. However, since we had not, it would have been bad for the team to play indecision with the QB position.
Neither were effective and I can't say I think putting Barnett back in was going to make a difference. More than just the QB position underperformed yesterday.
It's incredibly easy to sit on our couches and second guess arguably the best head FB coach in ISU history.

Re:Williams: Bowl loss leads to QB questions
Isuno1fan, it think you hit it right in the head. That's what the outcry will be about, not the fact that tried Jantz. Should have come back with JB or at least let him get settled in. It was 10-6 on the scoreboard.

It was a gamble, and it didn't pay off.

Re: Williams: Bowl loss leads to QB questions
Barnett shouldn't have been pulled so soon IMO, unless he was injured. But if he would have had another bad series or two, I think it would have been ok to pull him to try to find a spark.
What is OBVIOUS to me though is that Steele Jantz just can't play the QB position at this level. He's a great athlete, and he can get out of trouble with his feet, but he has no clue what he's doing in the passing game at all. Not only is he VERY inaccurate, but he doesn't even see defenders standing right in front of our WR's. He's been given enough chances to show that he has overcome his horrible decision making, but yet he still comes out and throws every other pass right to the defense.
As for Barnett, he doesn't throw the INT's like Steele does, but he's really not much more accurate either. I'd rather have him throwing the ball than Steele though, although Barnett can't throw it well enough to be a Big 12 QB either IMO.
So... the fact is... Sam Richardson better be the real deal, because I don't see how we can go into next season with Barnett or Jantz at QB and hope to succeed.
I think I now know why we have Sam Richardson, Grant Rohach, and Luke Knott all on the roster for next season. I think Rhoads knows that neither Barnett or Jantz are what we need to be successful. It didn't help that we had an inept OC and QB coach in Herman, but seriously, you MUST have a QB that can hit a wide open WR 10 yds down the field. Had we had a QB yesterday that could throw a 10 yd pass to a wide open WR, we probably win the game. I don't think that's too much to ask, is it?

Re: Williams: Bowl loss leads to QB questions
JB and SJ are both below average QBs. End of discussion. Paul Rhoads made the right decisions. Our players were playing like pregnant manboys. Enough said.

Re: Williams: Bowl loss leads to QB questions
Jared Barnett's QB efficiency rating is 99.4, and Steele Jantz's rating is 106.8.

Re: Williams: Bowl loss leads to QB questions
When was Barnett pulled? I went for a drink/bathroom break at the game and when I got back Steele was in. I feel like JB needed a little more time to settle down. One of the only two times I've ever really disagreed with CPR.
