I played when lonely was here and we did not run a type of spread. It was a zone-read offense but it wasn't a spread.

Plus I prefer not to run draw plays every thrid down.

    No thanks.

LOL, I do remember the draw plays as being a bit excessive. But I did like the mis-direction plays.

The misdirection with JJ Moses in motion behind the running backs was put into place when Pete Hoener was our OC after Loney left the first time.

OK. So where is Hoener now? Didn't he go to Texas somewhere?

Hoener just wrapped up his 1st year as tight ends coach of the Carolina Panthers. After ISU he spent one season as running backs coach at Texas A&M before going back into the NFL, where he has since coached with the Cardinals, Bears, 49ers, and Panthers.

Thanks for the info. He has definitely moved around some. Life of an assistant coach.

I think Cale is actually the RB coach at OU with Heupel coaching QBs.

Not a bad idea though as he coached QBs before at UAB and he has seen some good offenses in his days at OU. Of course OU usually succeeds more because they have better talent than the other team rather than by scheme.

    Re: Steve Loney....

Yes Please! Give me 10 years of CPR, Wally and Loney and we can build something special here. Loney was here as OC for the 9-3 season with Sage at quarterback whom most of us thought was overachieving. That was the team CPR says he knew was going to be good when he left to take the Pitt job.

    Re: Steve Loney....

As a Rams fan, thank god he's gone. Multiple high draft picks and high priced FA's and the offensive line is still the worst part of that team.

Maybe he should get to liking recruiting because I bet he won't get too many offers as an o-line coach in the NFL.

Well I remember Loney talking at a clinic for literally hours on how to account for the 5 technique in the zone offense by running nakeds, zone reads and reverses and that was during his first stint at ISU.
