I'm not sure if that is the case here anyway. As stated above he is a senior who would be applying for a medical hardship year from the NCAA due to injuries. Sounds like the coaches are saying it wouldn't be worth his time to apply.
No scholarship being pulled in this case, but I agree that is kind of rotten when coaches pull it.

Of course, that is not what is happening here. He signed out of JC with two years to play, and he has been on scholarship for two seasons. So the school has fulfilled their commitment, they are under no obligation to bring him back for a 3rd year if he is able to be granted a redshirt.
Re: Anthony Young not coming back for senior year
Young never redshirted, prior to being out for the year last year. So it would just be a regular redshirt and not a medical hardship.
Re: Anthony Young not coming back for senior year

I think he played some end, guard, and tackle this year..............end of the bench, guard the water cooler, and tackle anyone who comes near it.

He's a nice kid, no reason to pile on him.

This. A nice kid who seemed to want to be with the program. Sucks that it didn't work out, whatever the reason. Good luck wherever he ends up.

Agreed. Unless he was a poor teammate, sounds like the kid was hurt and the staff is telling him no need to apply for redshirt. That is their call and I respect it, but no reason to make AY out to be a bad guy here.
I wish him the best.
Re: Anthony Young not coming back for senior year
Couldnt he go the UNI route? for a year? or if he has graduated couldnt he transfer to any Div 1 school?
Re: Anthony Young not coming back for senior year
Does he already have his degree? Not sure I understand this situation, can someone explain?

It's pretty common for a school to honor a player for four years even if they know they will never play. Once that four years is up, they can opt out of the player and really they shouldn't feel bad about it because they gave them the opportunity to get their degree. Young was a JUCO but the same thing sort of applies.

Because we had few other options his first year. He's not very good. We basically had Benton, LJ and Reeves in Young's first year so if he played at all, that was why. I thought at the time that he was by far the worst corner we had and maybe the worst corner we've ever had.

We had Watson and Thomas. You last statement is hyperbole as well.
