football scholarships

I hit the wrong button before and should have had this under football before. How many scholarships are we trying to fill and are any of the current verbals weak, other that Lawrie, because of Elliott and Herman leaving?

We will end up in the low 20 mark due to the 85 scholly cap.

I'm not too worried about anyone due to the coaches leaving.

With Mattison, Jennert, and Young not back we are getting closer to 25 than 20. That's not counting further attrition which has been hinted to. Also remember that's signed, not committed and it's unlikely everyone who commits will qualify. I'm not implying a certain individual won't qualify, just that it's unlikely that everyone qualifies for the second year in a row.

Based on Rhoads wanting to keep the same type of offensive system in place and hiring from within, I highly doubt its caused anyone on that side off the ball to waver on their commitment.

Why is he not coming back? Is he transferring?

Well, crap. I've been pretty happy with linebacker play since CPR arrived in Ames, but linebacker retention has been ****. If Mattison's really gone, that makes six linebackers that never made it to campus or left school in three years. Donald Smith, C'Quilin Hubert, Adrian Bennett, Dentrell Pate, Kyle Boyd, Floyd Mattison.

Hubert signed with Tech. Skated out on ISU, but was never a part of the team.

Oh, I know. Same deal as Boyd going to Baylor (although I think he dropped football altogether and joined the military or something). There was still a spot on the team that was saved for Hubert & Boyd, and their defections hurt ISU's LB depth.

I think we will be in better shape when guys don't have to sit three years behind Knott and Klein sadly. I still think we are in great shape anyways... unless all of our opponents suddenly change, we will only have two LB's on the field most of the time anyways.
