GPA Requirements
I have a question, it has been rumored that two of our recruits could not Make Grades. so what are the requirements to Play athletics at Iowa state? and how do we compare to other schools?

Re: GPA Requirements
I'll assume its a 2.0 that seems pretty standard. If someone can't get at least a 2.0 they either have terrible time management skills or drink/party way to much, especially at a large university where a good majority classes are graded on a curve

Re: GPA Requirements
Maybe he meant a 16 or 18 on ACT also.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: GPA Requirements
I think to stay here it is about a 2.0.
Not sure what the mins are for entrance exams, high school/juco GPA, etc

Re: GPA Requirements
Let's not get too technical here and settle on the fact that you have to be a unique combination of dumb and lazy to not make it in as an athlete.

Re: GPA Requirements
I had a hard time maintaining a 2.0 my Freshman and Sophmore year. Some people just don't adapt as well as others. I believe athletes have to maintain a higher GPA than the University min. of 2.0.

No.

No. Not to mention coaches and advisors on your *** to get you to complete your work and I would assume required study sessions with the team.

Re: GPA Requirements
I know its outdated but in a movie like Hoop Dreams, both the athletes are way behind grade level just as a function of where they went to school and their socioeconomic status. I think it's dangerous to say oh they're dumb or lazy when it could be just as much an environmental factor. My mom teaches at an urban middle school, where kids often come in barely knowing how to read or form a sentence. There's many other issues at play.

Re: GPA Requirements
Not to mention that a lot of the athletes are in worthless majors.

Recruits are different than current students. When I went to ISU, Iowa and ISU were the same to get into school. You either had to be in the top half of your high school class or around a 24 on your ACT (high was a 34.5 or 35) back then.
We did have partial qualifiers that could get a 16 or 18 and enter.

Re: GPA Requirements
I barely managed a 2.0 my first semester of college, but I only went to class about once per week. Looking back, I am pretty impressed that I passed all those classes?

Looking back, I am pretty impressed that I passed all those classes? But here is the thing, you still passed. My first semester was very similar. Only I was in a major that I really had no interest in and did it for my parents sake. Either way, just doing the bare minimum still got me comfortably above a 2.0. If you really wanted to play football at a major college level, I don't see how getting a 2.0 could be that hard. It's really not difficult to pass undergrad courses. Especially if graduating isn't your goal.

I think it has something to do with proper capitalization and punctuation, but I'm not sure.
