Will Garmon be as good as advertised or will he be overwhelmed? Sad we have to depend on a freshman Rb, but it is what it is. Robinson, Wegher, and Mccall were all able to step in as Freshman and be productive, but will Garmon who was higher rated. Who knows.
    Tell that to Oklahoma State.
Hell, Iowa fans just need to ask themselves what our running backs and our entire running game did to them last year.

I get that, but the only thing it tells me is that he played against 5 crappy passing defenses, while at the same time you used JVB's stats from a series of games against good passing defenses. Is Barnett your starter next year? I was under the impression Rhoads hadn't named a starter yet. I think your whole reasoning of why Barnett (if the starter), is going to be good, because he passed well against 5 poor passing defenses, is extremely flawed. It's also convenient for your argument, that you left out your bowl game. QB rating last year, JVB 138.5, Barnett 99.4.

Well, of course. We beat the worst #2 team ever...remember? And we only won because of a tragic plane crash that was front and center on every OSU player and coaches mind. You need to read more HN.

I don't think you do get it, your comparison opinions of personnel is useless because you don't know ISU football. One of the biggest stories of the year is the QB battle and you didn't know it.

Does QB ratings take into account his 437 rushing yards? Or the fact the Barnett didn't play against the two non con cupcakes? You've done nothing but twist stats in this thread. You have also failed to realize that overall rankings of pass defense mean very little in two conferences where the offensive styles are completely different like the big 12 and big 10. Of course I wouldn't expect you to know that since apparently you don't watch anything but Big 10 football.

But please continue to take random guesses at ISU personnel and try to pass them off as fact, it's entertaining.

Of course the pass defense rankings for the two conferences have NOTHING to do with the offenses that the respective defenses face right?

Let me put it this way. The highest passing yard average in the Big 10 was by Northwestern who ranked 38th nationally. The average pass yardage ranking fot the Big 10 was a whopping 81st!

    NW 38th
    MSU 41st
    IA 59th
    WI 61st
    IND 80th
    PUR 83rd
    ILL 91st
    MI 93rd
    PSU 96th
    NU 104th
    MIN 109th
    OSU 115th

    Average 80.833

    OSU 2nd
    BU 4th
    OU 5th
    TTU 7th
    ATM 18th
    MU 64th
    ISU 73rd
    UT 86th
    KU 101st
    KSU 108th

    Average 46.8

Seriously, there is a HUGE reason why the pass defense ratings for Big12 teams are higher than those for the B1G. THE B1G SUCKS AT PASSING THE FOOTBALL! Seriously, the Big12 had 4 of the top 10 passing offenses in the COUNTRY! The top team in the B1G (NW) would be 6th in the Big12. Most Big12 offenses didn't suck at running the ball either.

Back to the point. It's BS to try and compare Vandenberg and either of the ISU QBs. They are asked to do completely different things in vastly different offenses.

Played a great game against a below average defense. I think you were probably part of the majority that thought austin arnaud and ricky stanzi was a push over here lol.

Ricky Stanzi was a better QB, but he wouldn't have been better playing for ISU in Tom Herman's offense. I wonder what Stanzi looks like w/out 2 NFL caliber receivers and 2 NFL caliber TEs as a college player. There isn't one guy that Arnaud threw to who is (or could have been if not for character issues) in the NFL. Not saying that Arnaud's better (because he isn't), but Stanzi would have looked like garbage trying to operate the system we were running.

The same holds today. If Vandenberg was ISU's QB, the offense would be less effective. Same if Barnett or Jantz was Iowa's. Thats a push.

If the question is who will be considered a better college qb when they're done playing I would agree but going into next season at this point I don't think you can say Isu has the advantage or is even equal. I thik in 2-3 years Barnett will be scary but he has to make some strides before I can say he's as good as Vandenberg right now.

That's what your gut tells you, but the stats say it is a push.

and now your doing the same thing that hawkadoodledoo tried. Your cherry picking stats, if you look at some JVB is better, if you look at others JB is better. That's why it is a push.

Ok I can see there is no point in arguing this one Iowa state owns Iowa in every position.
