Details on CPR new contract
From the DMR. AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State has released the details of its 10-year, $20 million contract extension with coach Paul Rhoads. Iowa State releases details of Paul Rhoads' contract | The Des Moines Register | DesMoinesRegister.com
The buy out of only 1 million scares me a bit.

Re: Details on CPR new contract
Coach will earn $1.6 million in base salary, which will increase by $100,000 each year starting in 2013.
- Due one-time payments of $300,000 in 2015 and 2018.
- Will earn $200,000 for each year the Cyclones win seven or more regular-season games. A $100,000 bonus for reaching a bowl game and $100,000 if the Cyclones finish ranked in the Top 25.
- Will earn $250,000 if ISU ties or wins the Big 12 regular season championship
- Coach would owe ISU $1 million if he leaves for another Division I or NFL head coaching job.

Yeah I don't like the $1Million buyout. I would be OK if it were just for NFL jobs.

Re: Details on CPR new contract
Upon reading the contract further, Rhoads' "base compensation" will be $375,000 per year and it will remain at that rate throughout the term of the contract. He will also receive $1.225 million in guaranteed "additional compensation", and it is that compensation that will increase by $100,000 each year.
In addition to the bonuses listed above, Rhoads will receive another $250,000 for winning the BCS national championship. He will receive $25,000 for being named Big 12 Coach of the Year and an additional $25,000 if named National Coach of the Year.
Coach will be provided use of one automobile representative of a head men's football coach in the Big 12, as part of the Athletic Department's car program, which is provided to facilitate Rhoads in carrying out his duties as head football coach. The University shall also pay Rhoads' initiation, annual membership dues, excluding minimum food and beverage requirements, to the Ames Country Club.

Unless I missed it, I'm surprised there aren't any incentives in the contract based upon the academic standing of his players (i.e. graduation rate, team GPA, etc.).

Interesting. Agree with the other folks that the $1mil buyout is surprising

Re: Details on CPR new contract
I'm curious about what "fired without cause", in the $750k x years left in contract means. Wouldn't "putting an awful team on the field" be a cause for firing?
(and really only half kidding, isn't that a main cause of getting fired, not doing a good job?)

Re: Details on CPR new contract
I don't care what it says as long as Paul is happy with it.
"For the great enemy of truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived, and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Too often we hold fast to the clichés of our forebears. We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations. We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought."

This contract will only last a couple years, IMO. If CPR continues his rise, Jp will renegotiate it again. The 1 million buyout gives CPR a little leverage for negotiating also, he probably wanted that.

I don't really see an issue with the buyout. If CPR was to leave, it would be for one of the higher profile jobs. Even if the buyout was $5 million, the large programs would have no problem forking it over. The only difference would be ISU would get $4 million less, but it has no effect in my opinion on keeping him here.
GO CYCLONES!!!
