    B12 spring QB battle rankings

No mention of Richardson. You have to think he'll get a long look. Kind of weird seeing TCU and WV included in the discussion.

yay we've been too distracted cursing Jerry Palm and Doug Gottlieb the last few weeks to hash out the QB race yet another time.

I agree though SR will get a legit shot at the job, I think its more scary than weird that TCU and WV have are in the discussion. Both of those teams bring back a lot of firepower on offense.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan.

Lol. Lots of good stories to follow in the B12. What does OSU do with Weeden gone. Same with Baylor and RG3. Texas still has issues. KU brings in the Notre Dame transfer. Geno Smith is a stud.

I guess I did not realize that Klein had left KU. Where did he transfer to? Big Charlie better hope his golden boys pan out.

    Re:B12 spring QB battle rankings

It's a decent article but remember SR is in the same boat as JB last year. He didn't get much press either. It was all about JT and SJ.

I like how the article states JB struggled down the stretch and opened the door for Steele....we lost to OU and KSU! The #8 and #9 teams in the country in some crappy weather. I don't even count the bowl game even though we all agree JB wasn't playing his best, we were in a 7-6 game when he was pulled after one quarter of play. But we out-gained KSU (368 to 359 and won TOP). OU was a different story but it was OU. Their losses came from the top 3 passing teams in the league and 2 of those QB's will be in the NFL next year.

I think it will be an interesting spring but unlike many on this board, I believe it will come down to JB taking care of business. If he does, he's your man and SR will be #2 if he's whats been advertised.

Jantz has the most room to improve. With a OC/QB coach who is more of a teacher and also who we brought in as our passing game Coordinator, Jantz will likely win the job.

I agree Rust, SJ needs a ton of improvement. So does JB. The issue is do we waste half the season waiting on it. This is his last season. JB has 3 left and SR has 4 left. Unless SJ blows the other guys out of the water, it would be a waste of time and reps.

The guy that gives us the best chance to win in 2012 plays, whether it's his last season or he has three left.

Re: B12 spring QB battle rankings

I am going to wait at least until the end of spring practice to see who looks to have made the most progress before I even try and guess who the starter will be.

Even then, a lot can and will change during Fall ball.

Either way, we will have a QB who is good enough to win games next year. The question is, will either improve enough to take that next step forward.

I really don't understand how people think Barnett who is more mechanically sound and better coached up has more room to improve than Jantz who isn't mechanically sound and hasn't been as coached up at the QB position. Barnett still knew the system better as he has been here a year longer too.

Yea, and we were 4th and 2 on a drive to tie (could have been winning drive if we had not botched a PAT earlier). He was pretty close to pulling out a win on the road over a top ten team.

It is all good for ISU for the best QB to win out. But I don't get the Janz love either. I sat through that UNI game, and watched his game at UCONN also, and SJ was flat out terrible against inferior teams. Thank god he played great in the comeback against UI. JB may have had his struggles also, but it was against a lot better competition, generally.

IF SR looks good, love to see Janz in a Austin Flynn role.

    Re:B12 spring QB battle rankings

Actually, not too much changes in fall camp unless guys regress. Coaches know going into fall camp who their guy will be. Just like last year, they knew JT would be intelligible. That didn't just come up all of a sudden. They knew SJ was their guy and it was clearly shown in how and who he repped with during the fall. They just needed JB to keep working because SJ was still an unknown so they continued the "competition".

And this spring is no different. You going to tell me all of sudden they decided JB couldn't play after we almost beat KSU? The SJ talked started first week of bowl practice. So, making the switch in the game was an effort to keep a little fire lit under both guys coming into the spring plus giving SR some hope and reason to work hard.

Will there be a true competition, yes. There should be with every team at every position. That's how teams get better. However, do the coaches have an idea who their guy will be, yes. Your team has to have a perceived leader at the QB position. Not all QB's lead the same. Good football teams know who their leader is during 4th Q, spring drills, and summer 7 on 7.

I think Sam has the brightest future, but no way does he crack the top two without an injury happening.
