Re: Coaches praising the opponent before a game

Ugh. What's worse telling your team you're sick of coaching them or telling them that they have no chance?

Re: Coaches praising the opponent before a game

When I was a freshman after our varsity destroyed the conference favorite, we had our Jv coach come in and say the opponent was mad was playing their varsity for revenge. The rest of his pep talk consisted of telling us not to get seriously hurt because they would try that. At the end, one player asked, so your pep talk is not to get hurt huh?

I know, cool story bro. But I laugh every time I see him still.

And you're right, I think it's silly when coaches pump sunshine about their opponents. But to say that the team has literally no chance to win? To say that Oklahoma can name their score before the game is even played? How are the players going to even compete if that's what the head coach is telling them?

Reading the article makes me wonder if he was trying to make a statement to the AD that they need to support football more if they want to have a chance to win. Especially because they made a point of saying how many scholarships ISU had to work with.
It is ridiculous that they had so few scholarships for football and that it wasn't because of sanctions, but because the AD didn't want to pony up the cash.
I can imagine that Walden was ticked about the lack of AD support and was probably fed with trying to compete with the big boys without even being in the same zip code with AD support.
