Williams Blog: The best of Jake Knott is still to come
Re: Williams Blog: The best of Jake Knott is still to come
Combine a healthy Knott and AK47 with hopefully the best DL we've had since they've been here, and our D could be tearin it up this fall.
Re: Williams Blog: The best of Jake Knott is still to come
Every player should be better with each passing year. It doesn't always work that way. But that should be the basic expectation. It shouldn't be a special thing to be at your best as a senior.

I think you missed the point.

"— We’ve already covered that Knott will be healthy entering spring camp. What makes this news really important? Knott’s golf game should be better than ever this summer…"
Should this be Summer/Fall camp?
Thanks! Nice read!

best DL? explain please. we lose 3 starters on the d-line... nobody on the roster has shown that they can pressure a QB. hopefully this will be a solid year for the DL, but they dont have much experience

Maggitt was the starter before injury. So technically we only lose 2 starters. If he is back at 100%, I think he will be better overall than Lattimer.
Irving was listed at the top of this list for spring at the other spot. He is still raw but he has a lot more tools than Neal did last year. We have Nelson and Willie Scott with PT behind these guys and they have Lemke listed ahead of Nelson so he must be impressing the coaches. I think we will have better starters and better depth than last year at DE.
McDonough will be better than last year. Bigger and stronger.
Laing is listed as the spring starter at the other slot. He's been in the program a while and should be at his best this year. He probably wont be a good as Rump, but he should hold his own.
Jensen and Simon are behind him, and Woods and Pompey are behind McDonough. I think the DT depth is the best we have had in a long time.
Overall I think the starters will be better as a group than last year with 3 seniors and one freak of a sophmore. I think the depth behind them is better than we have had in my memory. We have more guys with experience and we have younger guys beating out the upperclassmen which tells me we are recruiting better as well.

Could any of those graduating players? Lattimer was ok getting pressure. Rump was a good player but not dominant. Just losing players isn't the issue, losing dominant players is.

Am I drinking too much Kool-aid to think that Knott and Klein can go 1st-2nd round next year?

No, I think this is very possible.

Knott will need to stay healthy all year or teams will dock him for his injury issues, even though none of them are the same injury. If he can have a full year at full strength, I can see 1st or 2nd.
I'm not sure where AK47 will end up. We'll see after this year.

I'd temper your expectations for Maggitt. Not to say that he won't have a good year, but he had another setback after last year's knee injury and is pretty slow going right now. Hopefully he bounces back to 100 percent but I wouldn't set that as an expectation at this point. If he does, it's a giant bonus IMO.

That sucks. Thanks for the info C-Dub. Let's hope he rehabs well this spring and can get some reps in fall practice.

I would think that after two straight years with 110+ tackles and being the Big 12 co-defensive player of the year he's not far behind Knott.
