Re: question regarding DE video up on cyclones.com
On the VLOG from Mr. B's, Arnaud says that Morrissey looks the part of a Big XII DE. Patrick Neal with a better motor and much, much bigger. Supposedly Morrissey is a type of workout warrior like Knott. A guy who is obsessed with getting better and bigger. Arnaud said he would not be surprised to see Morrissey starting next fall. And the whole VLOG emphasized that we seem to be getting some decent depth on the D-Line of 2 and 3 deep.

You guys are the ones saying how great he is and how dominant he's going to be. I'm saying, let's just wait and see how it all plays out.
Rhoads has said that Irving has the potential to be good someday. Arnaud says that he doesn't get off the line like you'd like to see a good DE get off the line yet. So those aren't my words folks.
The kid has a TON to learn, and as Rhoads has said, he needs to get more aggressive and develop a mean streak. All I'm saying is.... let's all be realistic with this kid. Let's not turn him into the next Bo Williams please.

It is spring ball, several months from the first game. Every player has to get better, work harder, and focus on their weaknesses. David Irving has a chance to be a monster at DE like we haven't seen since Reggie Heyward, I hope he listens to his coaches and works hard. He isn't being asked to become a doctor, he should be ready this fall barring injury.

I think it's a combination of the Maggitt injury and your reason. His redshirt wasn't pulled until after Maggitt was hurt. I don't think that any playing time for Irving was justifiable until Maggitt went down, due to his position on the depth chart. So while they may have wanted to get him experience for this year, there was still no reason to pull his redshirt until Maggitt went down.

When they decided to pull the redshirt, Coach Rhoads said at the time that it was because DI had looked so good in practice.
They didn't need another body, they just could have played Rony Nelson the downs that DI got.

Re: question regarding DE video up on cyclones.com
Didn't Rhoads play two true freshmen on defense in order to prep them for starting spots in their sophomore years and everyone was worried about having those unproven young starters? How did it turn out?
"He is the toughest I have ever been around, physically and mentally," Burnham said. "You can beat him down but you’re not going to beat him out. He’s got the mindset of, ‘If you’re going to get me out of this game, you’re going to have to kill me.’ That’s about where he is."

Re: question regarding DE video up on cyclones.com
My guess after fall camp we will see something like this on the depth chart for the DEs.
1's. Maggitt and Scott
2's Irving and Kron
3's Lemke, Morrissey and Nelson
and the incoming guys will be redshirted.
