This is a great point. I've been wondering all along why this whole thing bugged me so much and I think your point turned the light on for me. As much as I don't think it's a beautiful trophy or couldn't use an update, we had a Cy-Hawk trophy. If they wanted to slap their logo on that trophy, fine, but to change the trophy up at all, imo, completely diminishes what the trophy is about and makes it pretty worthless. At this point, I don't really care what they do anymore. If they aren't using the Cy-Hawk trophy, then it isn't the Cy-Hawk trophy, so what's all the fuss about. Why not just use a golden dollar now, because what it really is about is corporate sponsorship, not a rivalry football game trophy.

This is my point, they changed the trophy last year, I was in the minority who did like it, and because of the outcry against it they had people submit ideas for a new one. If it isn't what we wanted, did anyone who is so upset submit one that was acceptable to this message board? Maybe the trophy should have stayed the same, but it didn't, ICGA did set up a process to try to create a trophy everyone could appreciate, but ultimately the committee whose members represent both universities narrowed it down to these choices, not the corn growers.

So was it the Universities that decided that the old Cy-Hawk trophy should go when Iowa Corn came on board or was that an Iowa Corn idea?

I like the Trice-Kinnick idea (and the trophy looks solid) — I would take it in a second, compared to anything "official" we've seen so far.

But if we're considering historical concepts, those legends have no connection to the ISU-Iowa rivalry.

So Iowa Corn never wanted a change in the first place? Once the universities said hey we should change the throphy to coincide with the new sponsorship, Iowa Corn just said sure, let us know what you come up with?

It amazes me how many people that are fans of both universities do not seem to know or comprehend what is actually going on behind the scenes of choosing a new trophy. Last year the universities (if im remembering correctly its a little late at night for me) had the trophies designed and then came together and agreed on one to be used. The Iowa Corn Growers were only there to UNVEIL the trophy because they are the sponsors. They did not come up with or choose the design used. The UNIVERSITIES are the ones choosing to put so much corn on the trophy not the ICG.

I also dont seem to understand why thr are peple basing the use of corn on the trophy. Last time I checked, this state was known for its ability to produce corn like nobody else in the world. We are known for it and we should embrace it as it is the leading commodity in our state.
