Re: STEELE!!!
Not sure where all the love for Richardson is coming from. I could see him staring down his first option from the stands. When his first option wasn't there he would get happy feet. Not saying he won't be good, because his throws were accurate for the most part, but he's not in the running for the starters spot. CPR pretty much stated that in the presser after the game.
If it were somehow possible to combine the best qualities of Jantz and Barnett....then we would have something. There were a lot of times I thought Barnett was a little to quick to tuck it and run. But that seems to be where his confidence is. On the other hand, Jantz throws such a pretty pass, I think he has a little too much confidence in his arm, and would benefit from taking off a little more often.

CPR didn't say he wasn't in the running. He said he's a ways off but not out of it. The same things were said about JB last year.

Re: STEELE!!!
QB is the most impactful single position on the offense - no doubt.
However...the QB obsession is over the top. It's spring ball...we're talkin' about practice! Defense is always further ahead...especially when a new coordinator is running the offense.
I too have concerns about the offense. But....I'd much rather have a great defense...a unit that won games for us last season. Great defense > great offense (see ISU vs OSU 2011).

Re: STEELE!!!
Just my opinion, but I think that the staff WANTS Jantz to win it, because he's the most talented QB on the roster right now. He has the best arm and is the best thrower on the move. BUT, his turnovers and boneheaded plays have kept him from claiming the spot. Barnett is more consistent. He's a better open field runner. Although, his two picks today didn't help his cause any. I think that Barnett is a lot better running the zone read, but two things about that: First, I don't know how important that will be in Messingham's offense, and second, Barnett is not all that big and depending on him to run the zone read will end up getting him injured sooner or later.
I think that Barnett was close to claiming the top spot going into fall, but his performance today (as well as Jantz's) moved him back to even. I have a feeling that all three will end up playing at some point next fall.

Re: STEELE!!!
The whole east bottom was almost full, that should be more than 5K.

Re: STEELE!!!
Barnett sure didn't look more consistent than Jantz today, and statistics don't back it up going to last season.
Barnett runs the zone read very well, and does seem to bring a sense of efficiency thats borderline intangible.
There just isn't much separation between the two.

I agree with you here. Looking at the stats, SJ had more passing yards but he also threw it 12 more times. Talking consistency, 11/20 and 20/32 is close in completion %. JB had more rushing yards however, he also did not take a 40 yards in sacks. The INT's were bad but hell, AJ took one to the house in big 12 play last year against Mizz. The bottom line, however you look at it, both guys represented the same number of points....3, and not enough to separate themselves today.
Like CPR said, today was not indicative of what he has seen for 14 practices. And you have to look at the entire body of work. Those were JB's first turnovers of spring, the playbook was condensed by design for today for this "glorified practice", and JT played very well at receiver today. So, we all should be encouraged that our football team will be better in 2012.
See you in August CF. Oh, Clones85, JB's dad said sorry he missed you. I didnt get back with him in time. But he would love to meet you on Sept 1 when we play Tulsa.

and for those of you saying "it's just the spring game; it doesn't mean anything"... if I'm a quarterback, regardless of the situation, I'm pretty sure it's a bad thing to throw it to the other team, especially multiple times...
jantz has proven time and time again he's good for at least 2 interceptions a game, and i don't think that's something he'll ever be able to correct... bring on barnett or richardson

REALLY tough to say whether many of those sacks (including Jantz's big one) would have really been sacks if it were real live football. I will say that both QBs need to learn to throw the ball away when in trouble. They'll have all summer to improve and there's a lot of work to be done. I couldn't say who will go into fall practice #1, but I would bet that both play at times this fall. I have no doubt that CPR will name a starter and not play both. But I'm guessing poor performance and/or injuries will allow whoever is #2 to get his chance at some point.

There just isn't much separation between the two. The entire running game was better with JB last year. That was the difference between the two imho.
Jantz and JB both made big plays in their own ways, but the running game in general clicked better with Barnett. Both seem like solid guys and I'm sure the competition is intense.

What did u guys think of the play calling? I couldn't make it and was wondering if any new tendencies were shown.
