it's probably more accurate to say AK47 had a 90 yard interception + 5 yard walk in to the end zone with james white on his back trying to drag him down

DeVondrick Nealy has an incredible burst of speed right off the bat. Didn't really get to show it off but his "zero to 60" is unbelievably low.

Jeremiah George looked really good, I have to think he's a front-runner to start alongside Klein and Knott for what has the chance to be the best LB group in the Big 12.

None of the QBs really stood out. For all the hype Sam Richardson is getting, it's clear that he is the most raw. Personally, I was most impressed by Steele... but neither Jantz nor Barnett looked much different than last season.

I think Jerome Tiller has a great opportunity to contribute from the WR position. Great to have some size there. Ja'Quarius Daniels also looks good as a receiver - good build. And as expected, it looks like Josh Lenz will be "the guy" from the WR spot.

Hoping that the OL can shore some things up, and I know they were splintered at times, but they were the weakest position group today.

    Here you go:

Football - News - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

It's in the middle of the spring highlights reel..

I would add the QB's fundamental throwing motion looks much more smooth than last year and both seem to be throwing a bit better as a result. However, in the highlight reel, all of the INT's are boneheaded throws into triple coverage. That's not good and sure hope that gets much better or there's gonna be lots of INT's during the season again.

Hard to tell, definitely outplayed the O-line. It seemed like the D brought heat really often today, including a full jailbreak 8-man blitz once, which was cool to see. When rushing 4 though, I don't think the pass rush was great but it wasn't awful.

    Re: spring game?

Not much from the RB position today. Mostly because the O-line wasn't giving them much to work with. I thought Woody looked good. Maybe stronger, if that's possible. Lenz looked solid. I was really imposed by Tiller. Looks like he might contribute this season. I liked the way both Nealy and Standard hit the hole (or where the hole should have been) with speed instead of dancing around behind the line like some young backs have a tendency to do. I always have a harder time with defense. Don't remember any major errors from the backs. Always swarming to the ball. I was surprised at the number of blitzes the defense was bringing, but I assume that's to help evaluate the line and running back ability to pick it up more than an indication of defensive tendencies.

It's hard to tell whether it's just the defense being more season as a whole or the offense being inept. I'm curious to see how he does against some of the better tackles in our league.

Yeah he had the tackle about 4 plays in a row. Probably not gonna be the best pass rusher, but by his senior year he's gonna shut down his half of the field against the run.

    Others on D that impressed:
Jansen Watson looks good. He looks like he belongs.
    Jeremiah George really impressed me.
Sam Richardson (cb) started with the ones. Did pretty well, except for that long Lenz catch.
    Washington looks bigger and better.

    Re: spring game?

I'd say maybe like 6 receptions by tight ends in the 3 quarters I saw. Maybe right around 85-100 yards total amongst the group.

    Re: spring game?

My biggest concern is that we don't run the high percentage pass plays I feel like every good spread team runs. We didn't throw many bubble screens and almost no quick slants. For the most part it seemed like it was 3 step drop or more, and the QBs scrambled at least 1/3 of the time.

All the positives stated so far I agree with. Jantz probably had the best two throws with the deep ball to Lenz and the deep ball into a tight window to Jarvis West that went just off his fingertips. Jantz had a higher completion percentage as well.

Brun had one catch for like 10 yards or less. I was hoping for a bit more from him. He is also enormous.

Lenz, Irving, George, Standard, Tiller, Young, Klein, were the players who stood out most to me.

"He is the toughest I have ever been around, physically and mentally," Burnham said. "You can beat him down but you’re not going to beat him out. He’s got the mindset of, ‘If you’re going to get me out of this game, you’re going to have to kill me.’ That’s about where he is."

As expected, the offense looked just like last year. A cluster-**** of jumbled routes, leading to a lot of poor throws and drops. Granted, the defense should know exactly where to be, but we make it hard on ourselves with this offense.
