The offseason is only half over. There are still 3 months left of the offseason for all of the QB's to improve on their strengths and weaknesses.

Were there any two back sets in the spring game?

The qb should be whoever manages the game best, makes the best decisions and fewest mistakes. That's been JB in the past.

Can't be too hard on 2 QBs playing in mobile sets where they aren't a running threat (due to green jerseys). Both Steele and Barnett had several plays where they could've broke big runs but the whistle was blown due to incidental contact (including what would've clearly been a rushing TD for Steele). Add that to the defense knowing they don't have to do much to contain the QB and you have what we saw on Saturday.

I really have no idea what to expect out of this offense come Fall.

honestly, whomever the coaches pick, that's the guy I want. I think it's going to be a fun year though with a decisively divided camp on here. If we don't win in Iowa City this year, it's going to be an interesting meltdown on here bashing that QB. I hope it isn't, but I have a feeling it's going to be a season of people posting reasons why another guy should be starting.

What sucks is we will have a qb controversy the next two years after this because of Barnet v. Richardson. I don't know why Rhoads doesn't go out and get a 5 star quarterback to end the controversy.

He would end up with two 5 stars...rinse and repeat.

It hasnt even been 4 months since the season ended, no drastic changes will have taken place since then. QB will be more important than ever if we run the ball as poor as we did Sat.

Re: Who do the Fans want as Starting QB? Post Spring game

I had to miss my first spring game in about 30 years for a wedding, but it could be that our defense is just very good and made the qb's look bad, especially when they couldn't run. There's no reason not to expect both Jantz and Barnett to be better this fall than they were last fall. And the guys I talked to thought Richardson looked the best of the 3.

Re: Who do the Fans want as Starting QB? Post Spring game

It's the damn Spring game and we have posters on here acting like the sky is falling. Regardless of what anyone says there is going to be a small transition period from Mensa to Messingham. Double that with the fact that we have a new WR coach and its no wonder why the offense struggled. Could it also be that we have a defense that could potentially be one of the best in Iowa State Football history? We're a couple of months removed from that awful offensive performance in the Pinstripe Bowl and some fans expect the world from our QBs

I'm voting Steele because I think Barnett is very good and consistent. Further, I think Barnett will be better than he was last year (natural progression/experience at least). Therefore, if Steele wins, then I have to assume he's reduced the bad plays from last year.

And who wouldn't want the Superman/Houdini heroics without the bad plays?
May my postings be polite and not misunderstood. (And hopefully funny on occasion.)

I actually agree and have the same reasoning for voting for Steele.

The best case scenario is that Steele improved enough in his consistency and grasp of the offense that he can beat out Barnett, who showed consistency in some games last year.

If Steele can harness his spectacular playmaking ability and improve his consistency enough to beat out JB, then it's a win for ISU.

Re: Who do the Fans want as Starting QB? Post Spring game

here's my thoughts. Both Steele and Barnett had some definite turnover problems (Steele probably having more of a problem with this but nonetheless) IF they were to both improve this problem, I would definitely want Steele on the field. He's way to explosive of a player to keep on the bench.

Also I can't remember where I saw/heard this but Steele did have a lingering injury after the UCONN game. From the looks of it he has gotten over that and has gotten back his shiftiness which still wows me everytime.

But what this comes down to really IMO is who's going to turn it over the least. I'm hoping thats Steele because he has the most athleticism but it could go either way.
