Re: Is ISU the early favorite in the CY-Hawk game next year?

I'm not calling a victory but I feel better about this year than the last few trips to Iowa City. Iowa has lots of new coaches and and a green defense. I think it will take time for them to gel.

As usual, limiting turnovers will be huge in this game. Also our QB play will need to be good.

    Stay loyal my sons.

Re: Is ISU the early favorite in the CY-Hawk game next year?

Based on what I saw in the Spring game I wouldn't favor our OL against any DL. We are 10-deep with avg line play. Coach Bleil will have them ready, I have no doubt, but they have a way to go.

Our WRs continue to drop passes, even Lenz. That needs to improve. From the interviews and spring practice clips, I really like Coach Sturdy. Our QBs are all accurate, but sometimes the receiver is wearing the other team's jersey. If they can work out their color-blindness we should be avg.

We have a new OC, so do they. I would say their OC is a lot more proven.

Our LBs and DBs are very solid, so I think we can limit their offensive production. What we will find out is whether KOK was holding the offense back or if that is Cap'n Kirk.

All this said, I would say we are 5-6 point dogs to open the season and it will move based on the first week results.

Underdogs for sure. We will never be favored going to Kinnick when the teams are just about equal.

But I think ISU probably has the advantages in the trenches on both sides ISU's OL vs Ia's DL, and I think ISU's DL has a slight edge over the Iowa OL(its been a long time since a person would say that coming into a season). Especially when you throw in the linebacking core ISU has backing the DL up.

The QB position could go either way with Vandenburg or Jantz(I think he wins the battle, he seems to have more upside if he doesn't turn it over).

ISU definitely has the more proven running backs at this point and is probably better if Shontrelle Johnson comes back healthy.

I think either defensive backfield could win the battle against the other receiving core and would give Iowa an advantage with the stronger DB core but I don't think ISU will be too bad in this area.

I also think the ISU spread offense will be a hard test on the young Iowa DL early on. They will have to maintain their spacing and lanes or either one of ISU's QB's can run, and Johnson or White for ISU can rip off a big one.

Its early but I think at this point I would consider ISU a 3-4 pt favorite, curious what others think.
    This is laughy.

    Where's everyone watching it?

    Bar in IC
    Student section in Kinnick
    Hometown

2 years ago i went into the game. Seemed like only about 25 red shirts were there.

Think ill stick to a bar in IC this year.

No doubt about it that this game in vegas will be -3 or less, still in favor of Iowa. ISU can, should, will beat Iowa at Kinnick this year. So we should travel to Iowa City in droves, and talk all kinds of trash.

I'm not understanding how ISU "should" beat Iowa this year. ISU beat Iowa in 3OT at home, and had to convert a 4th & 25 or something to force OT.

New season, what happened this year has very little bearing on next season. Right now, it's just a comparison of what each team has coming back.

Ok....I still don't see how ISU "should win". It's not like they aren't without changes. Best DB, best OL, QB questions, new OC....

And they "should" win? Not saying they can't, but to say they should win in IC is false.

I agree with you. I don't see anyway ISU is favored, and to call it here is especially odd since basically non of the ISU fans here have probably paid 1 minute of attention to Iowa this spring. It's mostly just about optimism.

Time for me to go into dreaded prophecy mode:
The one regrettable outcome this thread will have is that we'll end up with some Hawk trolls in here soon enough. The Hawk-eye's reach extends to the front page of the CF forum, and they'll know that something is amiss. I have spoken, and so it shall become.

Yeah that's the exact same as Hawks projecting a football NC every year.
If you could please post a link to any Hawkeye fan projecting them to win a NC this year that would be much appreciated.

It will be a tough game. Its on the road, and it being Iowa's super bowl makes it that much tougher. Little sister will be ready for this one

These will be key just like last year. It will help your quarterback play that Iowa doesn't have a very good d-line.
