Cyclone FB: Top 30 RB of All Time
We're back and with a look at a new position group and a much deeper position group. MookInLincoln's list is first and he has some mini bios for many of the guys along with his rationale on his selections.
My top 30 follows with the image and their stats with a few comments as well.
Feel free to post comments and questions, this should produce some good discussion. Geeking out on Iowa State Football and Basketball - current and past: Cyclone Top 30: Running Backs -
Re: Cyclone FB: Top 30 RB of All Time
#1. Troy Davis (1994-96) ... Two-time consensus All-American, member of the ISU Athletics Hall of Fame, Big 12 Player of the Year, multiple National Player of the Year Awards, led nation in rushing twice, only player in NCAA history to rush for 2,000 yards twice, twice a finalist for the Heisman Trophy, 4th best single season rushing total in NCAA history, 3rd Round NFL Draft, played 3 seasons in NFL and 8 in CFL ... 4,382 yards and 36 TD as a Cyclone ... Holds virtually every ISU rushing record including attempts in game
Man i miss these days.

“They're very, very hard to guard,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said. “They're really good. And with Niang in the middle kind of wheeling and all those guys spreading you out, they're kind of a nightmare matchup. And they're men. They're really men.” -

You miss going 3-8 and 2-9? Troy Davis was awesome, but I am too old for another return to that level. I'll die before ISU pulls out of its next nose dive.

You can make an arguement that Dexter Green should be #1. He beat Nebraska twice...in the 70s.

Re: Cyclone FB: Top 30 RB of All Time
That list is much more impressive than the WR.... Could compete with any program in the nation.

Re: Cyclone FB: Top 30 RB of All Time
I think it kinda sucks that when people talk about top college running backs of all time, TD isnt mentioned. I get that were ISU and our teams sucked those years but still.
My first ISU game was when he racked up 378! Good first game to attend.

Excellent work again.
More "impact" compared to the WR list. Probably shows how much more rushing-oriented ISU teams have been throughout the years.
No big argument with the rankings. Strachan is perhaps too low on both lists.

Texas-Benson, Williams, Charles
Michigan-Perry, Thomas, Biakabatuka
USC-Bush, Allen
I mean that's just three without even thinking or looking. Maybe it's our strongest skill position but in no way does that list compete with any program in the country. Davis, from a college standpoint could and did do things no other back has done but the rest were pretty average.
I'm on Twitter too: Tre4ISU
Or so I have read. -

Glad to see Calvin Branch on your list. He transferred to CSU, but still went on to play in the NFL as a defensive back.

Went to Mike Strachan's apartment to collect for the Des Moines Register and the living room was so full of Pot smoke I couldn't see the far wall. He invited me to join him, Crazy daze.
