In a previous related thread people were complaining about damaging confidence of our QB's by yanking them when they are clearly not playing well. Want to destroy the confidence of your true freshman QB? How about name him the starter in the spring and then yank him for someone else in fall camp.

I hate QB controversies but maybe Wes is just head and shoulders better than the other guys??? We have seen both our QB's and our fanbase is split on who they think is better so I don't think the two scenarios are similar at all. We've seen both compete, now let's see who improves the most over the next 3 months. I don't think you pick, just to pick.

I don't really get the competion argument, as in not naming a QB means that it will keep them competing. I agree with Gundy that just because a starter is named, it doesn't mean they can stop competing. It is not like once a starter is named the other QBs will just lay down, they will still try to compete to overtake the starter, and if they didn't compete to try to take the number one job then is that someone you would want at QB anyway.

I'm thinking it could be a ploy by the coaches to motivate the upper classmen QBs already on the roster.

Re: OSU Cowboys name True Freshman Starting QB
Gundy doesn't want a QB controversy so he named him off the bat. Rhoads doesn't mind the competition all through the fall. thoughts in differing coaching styles?

Re: OSU Cowboys name True Freshman Starting QB
The longer Rhoads waits, the more likely the decision will made for him. (through injury, eligibility, poor play, etc.)

Everything that i post always comes back to me wanting JB to be the QB. I Have said it before, if SJ is the better QB he should start. But, I will say this, I'm not the HC of any program but my philosophy on it is similar to Gundy. In a program that's up and coming, the faster you name your offensive leader the quicker you move the program forward especially when you have an entire summer and fall camp to develop. You cant continue to split #1 reps with two or three guys up until two weeks before you open. That gives the guy maybe 6-7 practices to instill his style of leadership. IMO, thats not fair to the team. Also, to let it linger says the two guys are close so if one isnt performing, the team is going to rally around the other guy instead of playing for the guy thats in there. That's not fair to either guy. We saw that this past season.
I like the move by Gundy and i think Wes and that OSU offense will be good and better off because of it. He now has all summer to focus and prepare for week one and instill his leadership style and confidence into the rest of the team. Maybe that doesnt fit here, but its just my philosophy on it.

He is probably close with Gundy... like riding around on the back of his motorcycle close. Stay tuned.

I bet he'll be pretty good when he figures out the offense and Big 12 speed.
