This is the one I voted for, and it's an improvement. I still hope that the actual trophy is better looking than it looks as drawn.
I didn't vote, because I don't think it really matters.
Did anyone else notice the word "concept" above each choice on the voting page? That allows them an out when the real thing doesn't quite look like the drawings.
Anyone else assume that the farmer on the old trophy was the grandfather, the woman is the farmer's daughter and the two kids are clearly her illegitimate children? That's no family. That's a tragedy.
Am I the only one who misses the original trophy? Sure, it was plain and could have been assembled by any 8th grader with a C or above in shop class...but at least it had some history behind it and was notable for its quirkiness. This new one just looks like any other fabricated, boring trophy.
As far as the old trophy goes, I was a little angered when we went and put the newer logo on it (when we finally got it back after 15 looooooong years...) Why mess with a trophy, especially for sponsorship?
The bottom line to me is that a rivalry trophy should never be sponsored. If you want to sponsor the game and call it the Iowa Corn CyHawk Game, great. But many people have made a great point here, what happens when the sponsor bails in 5 years? Do we just have a constant stream of new sponsors and a new trophy?
The old trophy wasn't the greatest in college football or anything, but it had history and meant a lot to fans and players from both schools. The fact that they sold out and changed it at all is a shame.
1. The Corn Belt (WWE style)
2. The Trice-Kinnick trophy
Anything other than those two is a fail. Again.
Maybe when the naming rights come up again in a few years CF will have grown to such a scale that it can buy the rights and CW can get his corn belt (but let's get T-Swift to bring the belt out to the middle of the field )
