WR Deon Long

I have been following our recruiting a little closer each year, and this year I saw a WR on our list named Deon Long. Didn't realize until today that it's the same Deon Long who played here in Albuquerque last for for the New Mexico Lobos. He is currently at Iowa Western. This would be HUGE for us to land this kid. He is a bigtime playmaker. Saw him play a few times last year. Long was named 2nd Team All Mountain West last year as a redshirt freshman. Had 47 catches, 807 yds and 4 tds in only 10 games last year. 2 of those games he only saw limited action due to an injury. He set Mountain West and New Mexico single-game records with 378 all-purpose yards against Sam Houston State. Former UNM head coach Mike Locksley is now an asst coach at Maryland, where Long will probably end up. I believe he is from that area. I really hope our coaching staff can get him to come to ISU. Out of HS, Long originally commited to West Virginia.

Nebraska and Maryland have also offered. This kid is better than almost every WR that we have.

Jesus, not another JUCO 'he's better than anyone we have on our roster' story. Did we learn nothing from the Money Reynolds hype?

Reynolds contributed and was injured...what's your point? Every player is different.

You mean the guy that was our best WR last season? No we dont want somwone like that again?

OMG, let's bash someone's opinion because an earlier JUCO wasn't as good as he could've been due to injuries.

Ok, so what's the story with this kid. Signed with WV, then played at UNM, and now at JUCO?

I'm assuming it's the old story of "kid signs with college A, only to transfer to college B. College B fired their coach so kid transfers to JUCO C, hoping to be signed by college D"

True. That Wallace guy was a horrible JUCO transfer as well. Didn't live up to his hype. :wideeyed:

Not to mention Aaron Horne.

My friend at IWCC who plays football with him says this kid is amazing and that ISU has been there several times to watch him this spring.

I'll admit that our young talent at WR is better than I can remember, but I still think back to last year when our best WR was a JUCO. So was our Big XII newcomer of the year.

Add all the talent we can get!

There seems to be no doubt that our staff would like to add a big time threat at wideout, and while I like the young talent, it certainly looks like this guy could help.
