As pointed out by several people already your suggestion of 20 lbs to gain and your discussion of LB weights really demonstrate that.

Those guys are linebackers. It just so happens they are linebackers in the Big 12 so they have coverage responsibilities. Most Big 12 teams roll out undersized linebackers with speed. It is not a hybrid position. It is the strong side linebacker. This is why when we play Iowa, you will see more of George. You questioning Mac's knowledge on the dline? And under Wally in the Big 12 we have played the 4-2-5 in most games minus Iowa. The Benton/Broomfield's of the world have been safety/linebackers, but not true linebackers.

Even under Chizik and Mac we still had undersized OLB. I don't ever remember us running out a 6'3 215 safety under Mac.

He could gain 20 lbs at anytime, depends on what kind of weight the coaches want him to put on. Some DTs have thrived simply because they were massive and could plug holes. So he could put on 10lbs of muscle and 10lbs of body weight.

His best bet is to stay a bit smaller and keep up some speed. My guess is he won't play a lot but he will be fresh when he comes in and hopefully can get some penetration going up against some tired OL's.

Re: RECRUITING: Football adds a DT who can play next season
Are you all even sure he's going to be a DT at ISU? Looking at the Wyoming depth chart he was their starting DE, in which case, 273 is a solid size for the position.
If he's effective at DE, you have a buffer for Irving with experience and you can toss the RS on Morrissey.

He could gain 50lbs like you said and just take up massive amounts of space on the line and be a run stopper. It depends what the coaches want to do with him. Im excited to see what he weighs come September.

The difference between Iowa State and Wyoming is not that big. Exactly, I'm sure ISU has better facilties so the S&T program would be better but don't forget, Wyoming's coach came from Mizzou, when new coaches come in from BCS programs the first thing upgraded is S&T. I think 5-10 lbs over the summer could be realistic, and will be good enough for this kid to contribute. You can never have too many bodies on the dline and getting a kid with some experience is always nice.

If he's effective at DE, you have a buffer for Irving with experience and you can toss the RS on Morrissey. The Assumption that he'll play DT is based on Chris's initial article. Seeing as he played both LB, then DE, then DT at Wyoming. I'd guess he'll primarily be a guy we use to spells anyone on the D line who needs it this year regardless of position. He was second sting DT last year at Wyoming.
This guy to me seems to be about bringing a guy in who loves ISU because he grew up in Gilbert and being able to contribute to a position group that has been woefully inadequate the last few years. Which is fine because depth at that position is critical.
Edit: He was listed at the top of the DE depth chart going into spring ball at Wyoming.
