Re: James White Reminds Me of...

I think they are very similar backs, both in size and ability, but barring injuries, I think White could end up being better than ARob because ARob was hardly ever healthy his last 2 seasons.

If you remember ARob coming out of HS, he had just BLAZING speed. That was really the only reason he was getting offers because he was so small, but his speed was unreal.

But he battled hamstring issues his final two years at ISU which really slowed him down. I'll never forget watching ARob run down the sidelines on several occasions and having to pull up while grabbing his hammy and then getting caught from behind. His final 2 years here, ARob's top end speed was probaly 75% of what it was coming out of HS IMO.

But I just think that White's vision might be a bit better. Arob seemed to run into his own blockers more and miss the hole, whereas White doesn't do that as much. I think White will have similar numbers as Arob, but only because he will have to share more carries.

I wouldn't be super shocked if White wasn't starter at the end of the year. Maybe Shontrelle decides to play and gets back up to speed (I do honestly think that the decision is up to him and his family at this point). Maybe one of the younger guys sneaks up. It will be interesting. Having this much talent is certainly a good thing.

I think if white is effective we will ride him and spell him with woody. His big play capability will keep him on the field. If he struggles then I think we see several backs. I just don't think shontrelle comes back. No reason to play the freshman if white is going for 120 yds a game. Again, not saying that will happen but there is no reason to get 5 backs carries if 2 are effective.

Absolutely no way James White gets 25 carries a game unless we are running the ball 60 times a game. We have too many talented backs to rely on one back for so much.

Also, I thought the deal was that Shontrelle has been cleared to workout but not yet to play and the decision on whether he CAN play will be this summer. Unless he is told there is a very high chance of getting injured further, I don't really think there is a question he comes back to play.

While this would be great...I don't see it happening. He may make a roster, but unless he gets a lot faster he won't be a starter. You can't just bully people in the NFL like he does.

Im sure oregon, alabama, lsu, etc have lots of talented backs too but you don't see them play 5 backs because 2 or 3 get the job done well. We have some talent but nobody great. I don't think white gets 25 carries either because I don't think he will be that consistent but I think you guys are crazy if we have one back that is consistantly getting yards and then we pull him just to get others guys some reps because they are "talented".

    Blaise Bryant
    Tailback (1989)
A third-team All-America selection following his junior season by The Associated Press ... also a first-team all- Big Eight choice in 1989 by AP, UPI and the Big Eight Conference coaches ... Playboy pre-season All-America selection in 1990 ... led Big Eight Conference in rushing with 1,516 yards, and in scoring with 120 points ... both were then-ISU school records ... also set records for most touchdowns and rushing touchdowns scored in a season (19), most all-purpose yards (1,718) and most 200-yard games in a season (2) ... tied the then-school record for most 100-yard games in a season with seven ... gained 213 yards in his Cyclone debut against Ohio, the most ever by a Big Eight running back in his first game ... played in the East-West Shrine game ... a sixth-round selection by the New York Jets ... spent four seasons with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Hope James can have a senior year like Blaise.

I don't know the guy, but he seems like he just gets it done and doesn't care about much else.

Walter Payton. Similar size and speed. He's quiet but tough. Pretty goid pass catching ability if the ball is put on him. He's a very hard worker.....probably our leader in that category. He just get's the job done.

Re: James White Reminds Me of...

James White is solid but at this point he isn't better than ARob. Not as good a blocker or out of the backfield.

Remember he was passed up by Shontrelle when Shontrelle was a true freshmen and it was Shontrelle and Arob getting the carries. We missed Shontrelle a ton last year. He can get the tough yards. White falls down at first contact. It's not his fault, he's just a speed guy and not a juker or physical.

I like White and what he brings to the table but he is one dimesional. Need to get Shontrelle back and than the two can play off each other well. Either that or have Nealy step up.

James White had 2 game last year where he ran for over 100 yards. @Baylor and @TT (where we as a team ran for almost 400).

He's the kind of guy that can kind of kill you for a couple drives by not getting the tough yards but than strike with a nice 20 yard run. He did that quite a bit.
