    1984 Big Eight Magazine

I scanned the pages pertinent to ISU from the 1984 Big Eight Magazine. That year it was published by a company called College Sports, Inc. I love looking back at these and will try to scan some more in the next few weeks.

Avg bench press 225 when Criner took over....yikes.

Also interesting that Tracy Henderson was first Big 8 receiver over 1,000 yards.

Wow — that's cool! Rep coming shortly.

I remember the "Writers' Poll" pages from those days.

That turned out to be an awful season for ISU. I attended most of those home games. I remember the KSU tie; weather was terrible; fight broke out between the teams at the end of the game.

    Yes, I am old.

I was fairly young and don't quite remember why Criner kicked Henderson off the team. What were the circumstances?

Didn't at least two of those players move on to the pros -- Alex Espinoza and Dennis Gibson?

Not a single Texas player on the roster, and very few FL or CA players, either. How times have changed.

It also stikes me how small players were. Receivers at 170-175 and guards at 260?? wow. The biggest guy on the team is pushing 300.

Not sure....I would have been 13-14 at the time, and back then, you had to pour over the pages of the DM Register praying for a couple paragraphs that mentioned ISU. And yes, that is my equivalent of walking up hill- both ways, to school through a foot of snow. Just as bad.

Too bad the Big 8 couldn't survive in today's TV driven environment.
