They have a senior QB in Vandenberg who played great at home last year and will probably break the school single season mark for passing yards this year. You have an Iowa Dline that is going to be young and inexperienced which will probably give up lots of yards on the ground.

I have a feeling this one will move more towards Iowa, so if you're thinking about putting some on the good guys, wait... but if you are hedging your emotions against your money, I'd move quick

Re: Iowa State at Iowa (-5)
I don't look for Iowa to be too explosive on offense and they have a new coodinator as well. I think they will mix it up a little bit more on defense. I expect the line to be closer to -7. Unfortunately I don't think Vegas is giving ISU a lot of respect, I think it has more to do w/ they have no clue how Iowa will react.

Re: Iowa State at Iowa (-5)
What is the Hawk-I's home field advantage, -6? Looks to be a winnable game for the 'Clones.

Re: Iowa State at Iowa (-5)
Just looked at Iowa's schedule and they are pretty excited to have the advantage. They have a pretty easy shot at 5-0 if they get past us.

Re: Iowa State at Iowa (-5)
I wonder how many starters Northern Illinois returns from their 2011 MAC championship winning team? They were 11-3 and scored a lot of points last season. Iowa could be in for an L playing that game in Soldier Field.

If you look at the past this is the kind of game we need if we are to win, in the CPR era last season was the first year the Hawks didn't light us up, in fact the previous 2 years KF was very nice not hanging 50+ on us. With that said, those scores were more an indication of a very poor offense that gave the defense virtually no help. Last season was the first time under CPR the offense came out with any kind of confidence and aggresion, it was also the first time in a long time that we had the more athletic team. Shontrelle should have gotten more respect for his performance last season, he chewed up the Hawk defense but was overshadowed because White got the TD's. IMO Shontrelle was successful because we were more atheltic and the Hawks couldn't keep up with us running sideline to sideline, especially in the run game. From what I've seen there's no reason we can't do the same thing this year, even w/o Shontrelle.

I would guesstimate they lost double digit (10-12) starters from last year.

I don't think it will be a shoot out by any stretch. It will probably be in the same range it was in regulation last year 20-27 points for the winning team.
In spite of what geniuses like waverly say, the hawks are going to have a transition period in adapting to new coordinators.

Certainly a possiblity of a loss for Iowa..
Originally Posted by The_Architect I wonder how many starters Northern Illinois returns from their 2011 MAC championship winning team? They were 11-3 and scored a lot of points last season. Iowa could be in for an L playing that game in Soldier Field. in the first game. Northern Illinois is replacing 9 starters on offense and returns 9-10 starters on defense. They lost 4 senior starters on the o-line, so will probably be a good first opponent for Iowa's defense. The QB for Northern Illinois played quite a bit (and well) against Arkansas State in their bowl game last year, but this year he'll have all new players around him.
When Northern Ill. went outside the MAC last year, they lost at Kansas 45-42, beat Army handily, got beat by Wisconsin 49-7 and beat Cal-Poly. Doeren is a good coach so I'm sure Northern Ill. will be prepared. But it's a game Iowa has to win to have any semblance of a good season.

In spite of what geniuses like waverly say, the hawks are going to have a transition period in adapting to new coordinators. On defense there will be very little change and it is the same system. On offense the running scheme is the same, there is just some variance in the passing game but doubt there will be much change. It is not like they are going from a pro style offense to a spread.
Just like ISU. They have a new coordinator, while there will be some changes it will mainly stay the same.
I just think that ISU will be able to run the ball pretty well and Vandenberg plays really well at home which should equate to a good amount of points for both teams. By shoot out I mean a shoot out by Iowa ISU standards, in the low 30's. It is not like either team is going to have a great defense.

Re: Iowa State at Iowa (-5)
I think Iowa spreads it out quite a bit more this year. Vandenberg is better in that style and they are hurting at RB.
With a true freshman kicker, we need to be putting it in the end zone.
