These rankings are irrelevant because most of the players we get are from out of the state of Iowa anyway. It would be nice to land the top players in state but you can't build a competitive team in the Big12 from just players from Iowa which is why most of our roster is players from Texas and Florida.

Ahh yes this famous statement.
There are absolutely not enough players in the state to make up the majority of the roster. That much is very much true. We have to go where the conference, and coaches are connected. In our case it is Fla and Texas.
But if we are going to make that next step as a program, we have to start making inroads (no pun intended) on getting the best in-state kids to choose us. It's extremely difficult to overcome history, and the mindset that has implanted in the minds of the kids of this state.
It will take some real genuine sustained success to do this. It is a process, and the fact that we are still in the process of rebuilding the crater that was left just 5 years ago. Add that to all of the inherent disadvantages that exist here as it is, and it makes the task even greater.
The only positive that I can really take from all of this, is even though the fanboys want us to believe that mac maxed out how much success you can have here, all of his inadequacies as a coach really never allowed him to win as much as he could have.
As a result, we really don't know the ceiling on the program. Think how many games that could have been difference makers that we pulled defeat from the jaws of victory while mac paced and clapped.
