In a random story. There was this kid in my school that in 8th grade, could punt 55 yards in the air. Football coach saw him doing it over and over and convinced him to play football. Unfortunately being in a severely messed up family and having serious mental issues stacked on his almost complete absence of how football is played, ended in total failure. Shame, would have had a serious leg by the time he graduated.

Averaged just over 37 yards with very, VERY few return yards given up. Nothing super special.
However he has blown up at camps this summer and killing the ball and that's what is leading to his offers.
I would add that his strength is probably location with his punts and his ability to finesse the ball.

Are you his agent, dad, or coach? Seriously, I remember your posts from a coach's perspective, so I really value your contributions like this. How has he looked on fake punts where his speed could really be an asset? And how come we aren't even listed as being interested?

I can't wait until our offense is potent enough that we don't need to carry a punter on the roster!

Statistically speaking, we should be going for it on 4th down every time outside of our own 20 yard line anyway just like that high school in Arkansas.

Coach. He is one of, maybe actually the fastest guy on our team. After the punting highlights are his WR highlights were you can see his speed.

That's basically the point of a rugby style punt. You don't get as much hang time or distance, but you limit the return ability and get some good bounces usually (if you execute it correctly).

Since his kicks are either up the middle or rugby style to the left I'm surprised they don't use more of an unbalanced line.

It certainly disguises a run a little longer when the punter is rugby style.

Agreed! Kirby was from Valley which is far superior!

Interesting thought to bring in a Punter this year. He would RS while Kirby is a SR and then have four years of punting. He better be pretty good for ISU to have two Punters on scholarship for a year. I'd be interested to hear the benefits of a rugby style punter. Is it better to have that style if the coverage team isn't super fast? Really, I haven't had an issue with ISU's punt coverage under CPR. The kickoff coverage has been a little spotty, but the punt coverage has been OK.

If Haack is the fastest guy on the Dowling team, he definitely has some speed. Could be useful on fakes.
